Default 95 Lude SI - Smells Like Kerosine / Shop Estimates

Hey all--
friend has a 95 lude si @ 140k miles. The other night we were driving around, no hard idling or anything.. but started smelling a kerosine smell, even when we were on stretches of highway alone. Definately got suspicious so we checked his oil and there was some residue on the bottom of the dipstick but no substantial indication as to how much oil was in there. None from how it looked.

Took it to a shop- also got brakes checked out
but they want $650 (inc labor) for water pump (which they said a bearing had gone bad in?!), new timing belt, valve cover seals, cam seals, whatever else. Said oil was leaking from somewhere up top, (i guess vc seal/cam).. and that his radiator was bad too?

Radiator part+labor = 330
$270 for front rotors and pads
and $125 for rear brake pads
haha wtf?

isnt this all a little steep? Are they pulling our legs?

heard rotors had to be pressed in or something?
should the brakes be left to meineke or some other mainstream shop?

no, rotors just come right off and new ones come on. You might have to take the two screws holding them down out, but use an impact wrench before you hate yourself for not using one.
