Default okay..why h22 gear ratios are so short?

i'm driving my 93 prelude vtec and i notice it can easily reach 3,000 rpm so quick. On 5th gear @ 80mph..the rpm sits @ 4,100rpm and i think it's really eating a whole lot of my precious 91 fuel. I feel like i needed 6th gear. I lived in san diego and the gasoline of 91 cost almost 3 bucks a gallon already. So tell me is it good to swap a h23 tranny on it so i can save more gas and the gear ratios won't be so short?

i have a h23 engine and tranny. I sit at 4000 RPMs while cruising 80 on the freeway. So no, the h23 tranny wont benefit you. Get a Euro-R tranny and you'll save some gas You'll just be spending a couple thousand for it, but hey, i'm sure you'll save money on gas in the long run

H22 is rather a performance oriented engine and its gearbox is constructed that way you don't fall out of VTEC when shift. Put F22 tranny for much longer gears, but don't come back here with a question "why does my H22 accelerate so shitty?".

I have the shortest stock tranny you can find for H series engine and in my country 1 gallon costs over 5$. I won't tell you about my salary as you will laugh to death... But I can live with it as I have much more pleasure (priceless!) when driving prelude than worries about mileage.
Buy diesel if you can't afford your car.

~125 miles if it was mostly highway, and I too cruize about 80 most days.

HAHAHAHA.

I average 29-31mpg with my H22 revving at 3250 rpms at 65mph.

RPM's really don't have all that much to do with your fuel consumption. Your throttle position does, the difference between 2750 -> 3500 RPM is minimal. Drive slower (lower wind resistance) or quit using your lead foot. I normally get around 22-23 mpg with a mix of city/highway and a bunch of VTEC. If you need more than that, buy a different car.

slow down...

you're revs will be lower and you'll get better gas mileage

On the 86-89 Integras you can use the 5th gear from the older (85-87?) Accords, which does decrease the rpms on the highway, but fuel consumption remains the same.

seriously..even though i drive normal @ 75 mph.. it's still the same. I think it's just my car that's not running normal from others. Hey what does it means if i just park my car while running and there is mild smoke coming from the exhaust pipe? is that normal or i need some valve job?

Um...actually he's right. Try not to talk out of your *** next time.

If you want better fuel economy, get an insight, not a prelude. You're a waste of a good prelude.

i can tell you definatly that h23 engines and trannys are no better on gas m. then h22's. i will sometimes get 21mpg if im lucky. and yes it is true that higher rpms does not have a big effect on how much gas ur engine will drink. but throttle position does. anyways good luck

My MPG didn't change when I went from the H23 to the H22. I got 29-31mpg with my H23 too. This is all based on a 14 mile total commute to work with a mix of city and highway driving. This is the EXACT same commute I had for both H23 an H22.

All I can say is that if you are worried about gas mileage and you are getting less than high 20's MPG, you aren't driving your car properly and a B series motor will not solve your problem. It's as simple as that.

Obviously, I don't abuse my car. I VTEC on very rare occasions. Doing it this way makes the times I VTEC that more special. lol

Why don't you just get Hondata, and tune it slightly leaner for better mileage.

After that, take out your seats, and spare tire. Remove all your coins laying around. Buy some Rotas and tires the next time u need tires.

Last but not least, take a dump before you leave the home.

Less weight = better mileage.

Give your car a tune up. If you can't at least get 20 mpg, you need to run a fuel cleaner though, change your plugs, possibly change your wires, and check everything out in your engine.
