Riding Gear Question (Pants)
Sup,
I'm about ready to invest in some more riding gear, especially for my lower body. My question is does anyone have any experience with the steel jeans?
http://www.joerocket.com/jrf/home.cfm
How do they compare to normal textile pants? I have also seen simlar products from Icon and such and just wan to get some real world experience. I know that leather is the best, but I at least want something that looks as close as possible to normal jeans, but with better protection for day to day riding.
Thanks

i haven't personally tried any of those so called safety jeans, but even if they have re-enforcement in the butt and knees they still will tear. why not look into some cheap leathers?

leathers for under $150, and i know teknic makes the chicane which are usually around 200 and are a little more sportier. i have those and absolutely love em!

Probably because he doesn't want to wear leather pants to school, work and/or the mall. Leather pants clearly offer the best protection but they're pretty low on the practicality to protection ratio.
I don't care who you are, changing out of leather pants when you get somewhere is just a plain bitch. That said, I just picked up a pair of the Rocket Alter Ego pants that I can step in and out for my daily commute. Yes, they're not as good as leather but they'll probably end up protecting me better because I'd likely get sick of leathering up twice a day and stop doing it altogether.

I know leather is the best, but for normal riding (work, calm casual ride,etc..) I do not want to wear leather and be uncomfortable, especially in hot (stuck in traffic) days.

Yeah, those jeans are just like the JR & Icon jeans. Both have a protective layer between the denim to prevent ripping.
Thanks

I dunno. To me jeans are jeans. I can't see these offering all that much more protection.
That said I commute these...

I wear them over my pants.
I've got a suit for track days and leisure riding.
