Default Battery Check light

91 Si, blacktop ZC.

Under hard acceleration yesterday, my battery check light came on. The car starts fine, so the battery doesn't seem to be bad. It runs fine - lights aren't dimming or anything, so I don't think the alternator is probably bad either.

I figured it might be my negative cable, as I've been having issues with that lately, so I replaced it, but the light is still on. So, no drivability issues, just a warning light.

Any ideas?

Yes, remember that the light isn't for the battery, it's for the charging system having a problem. I guess if they put a picture of an alternator on there people wouldn't know wtf it was.

And check and clean all your grounds and connections to the alternator and battery. A shiny connection is a happy connection!

You should check all of the wires for your charging system and make sure you belt is tight.

I figured out how to replace the negative cable (mine was corroded, the issue I mentioned before), but the postive cable appears to be integrated into the harness. Can it be replaced?

Chances are it's your alternator. Same thing happened to mine, I was driving home from a track day and the whole 2 hours back the battery light would go on and occasionally turn off, then turn back on etc. It's more of an early warning light, so you have time to fix it before it strands you somewhere.
