Default Got my 40-pt inspection, got some questions (brakes, o2 sensors, gaskets, 90k)

Alright so I got my free 40 point inspection today.

Got three things "wrong"

CEL- which I knew- Both O2 sensors and harnesses are bad, they way 860 dollars to fix, should I try somewhere else? That seems insanely high.

Brakes- They said my back brakes have 10% left, should I just replace the back or front too? They didnt say how much was left in the front.

Lastly- they said my valve cover was "starting to seep oil." Is this a BIG deal? He said the gasket was getting dry or somethin', said it would only be like 150 bucks to fix, is this a big deal? Should I get this fixed ASAP?

Thanks for the help

OH YEAH!

I got 90k service comin up, HONDA wants 1300 dollars!!! At Tires Plus they only was like 350+ tax to do the same thing....where do you recommend for someone with NOT much cash, ha

If you're at all worried about saving cash, don't go near a stealership...

Word, that is freakin ridiculous. Those o2 sensors you can do yourself, may take a while but would only be about $30. Brakes are easy to do yourself too, and the valve cover, just pick one up from ebay for like $100, and a new gasket, $10, and you should be good to go!

Why would you even need a new VALVE COVER? I say replace the gasket and be done with it...

Yup, what they did to you is the WHOLE reason for the FREE 40 pt. inspection.

O2 sensors are easy to replace. The sensor itself is what costs some money.

Brake pads are SOOO freakin easy to replace.

The valve cover gasket is easy to change. The main thing to watch out for is tightening the valve cover bolts too hard. There is the possibility of braking the treaded stud.

I HATE ****** mechanics. They make so much money off these easy issues. Plus, many lie.

first off dont get anythign done at the dealer, and DONT go to "tires plus"
find a good small honda specialty shop.
have them look at the thigns that ar eissues and handle the 90k service. it will cost mroe than the tire place, but it will be doen by someone who knows hondas not a tire changer and brake guy.

That was the gheyest thing ever. I only gave it like 11 ft/lbs and it snapped, the last one too. I had to wait two days to get one.

I think for the gasket for the valve cover and the spark plug grommet gasket things cost me a total of $17 from Honda. Replace the spark plug ones too. I don't know how they can even charge $150 for that.

The O2 Sensor thing sounds extremely high too. I would get a second opinion if you cannot do it yourself.

What is the highest point inspection they have? 90 points? And what else do they check if they do a 90 point one?

the valvecover bolts spec is 8 ft lbs. 11 ftlbs would bust them yes.

Dont need a tq wrench to tighten them. Just do it snug.

Hahahah wow

So... I should just buy brake pads and a gasket and do it myself?

If so, are Axxis pads good? And should I just get the gasket from Honda or what?

Oh man please do it yourself!!!! You can find DIY's on almost anything and you have 1000's of people on here that can help you through every step. I just changed an H23 valve cover gasket with all the spark plug gaskets as well. One of the easiest things you can do!!!

Take off the valve cover, pull off the old gasket and replace it with the new one. It's that easy, just be carefull with the valve cover studs as said before.

Everything there you can do yourself. Get yourself a decent tool kit and a Helms manual and you'll be in business. HT for when you run into problems.

Those prices are criminal.

That'd be great if I was actually going to do it with the dealership. But I found everything I needed for less than what you quoted me
