I've noticed white smoke coming out of my car when i accelerate. i believe it has to do with coolant getting in the combustion chambers. i was wondering how i can stop this? also it may be oil in the combustion chambers. either way how can i stop this?

 

if it is coolant sounds like a leaking or blown head gasket

 

so just replace the headgasket and im golden?

 

sounds to be a head gasket..Take off the head have it resurfaced and put a new headgasket in place...

Sounds like it... I just replaced mine for the first time this last weekend... what a PITA...

Well, I guess it wasn't that hard, it just took me a while because I did it all by myself...

that was going to be my next question. did you follow a write up or just kinda go at it? could you give me some tips or maybe point me in the right direction for doing it myself?

 

I followed the instructions in my shop manual...

They were pretty detailed... basically, I drained the fluids, took of the turbo, unbolted everything from the head and IM, and took the head and IM off together. (I've been told you can to it without taking off the IM, but it told me to in the manual I followed)

Then I took the head apart and took it to a machine shop where I had it surfaced. Then I put it all back together with new ARP headstuds, new IM gasket, new exhaust gasket, and new head gasket... I also replaced a few of my hoses that were looking a little worn out...

Took me about 8 hours of work to complete, although I spread it out over the weekend. There are those who can change a head gasket in 2.5 hours... but this was my first time and I was following a manual, so it took me longer...

 

Its pretty straight forward. You can definatly take the intake manifold off with it. Makes it easier for some people. DEFINATLY follow a shop manual. Your going to have to torque everything to spec and in order. I would advise getting new head bolts as well, but you can reuse the old if they arent damaged.
