Default 20 bucks decent price for mandrel U-bends?

Hey all

I'm having a really tough time finding someone that can mandrel bend me some pipe. None of the muffler shops I've spoken to can do it.

I've got one that can order me 2.5 inch U-bends for 20 bucks, and I'm waiting to hear back from a speed shop that has a mandrel bender on site. Last time I got a quote for 800 bucks to do a full 3 inch stainless steel exhaust on my turbo civic, so I'm hazarding a guess that they might not be able to beat 20 bucks unless I get quite a few done. Any suggestions? Keep in mind I'm in Canada, so ordering bends off the 'net is a last resort.

TIA,
Brett

$20 and you have to provide the pipes? Still not too bad. Why dont you try jcwhitney, VRS - http://www.vrsexhaust.com/index.html , or
Kteller- http://www.kteller.com/store/index.php

$800 for a full exhaust? damn man, pretty harsh sounds like they bought the mandrel bender and arent producing much with it, so now they are trying to get customers to pay for there mistake. Your best bet would just to buy mandrel bends on the internet. Ebay is your friend. For $800 though you could have a nice miller mig welder and all the bends you need, you would be ahead to with a "nice" welder.

I'm not to happy with them right now, just for the fact they wouldn't bend my piping because apparently "We use a special type of SS pipe that is good for exhaust and we can't guarantee your piping is the right type." On them.

Or they make really nice exhausts. For something completely custom, SS, TIG'd, $800 is good price, if they know what they're doing and you know they do nice work.

Welding is good, if you know how to do it... or else you'll spend $800 on trying to make a 1/2 assed copy of something.

Nope, it's 20 bucks (Well, 30$ CAN) for the whole bend, I don't have to provide anything.

Yeah, it is definately a top notch shop from what I've heard. Basically it's an 800$ bolt on exhaust, with all the fixin's cat, muffler, hangers, all TIG welded.

Thanks for the responses guys, I think that it's a decent price for what I'm getting.

has some awesome prices and can make some custom bends, though you'll have to call them for pricing on the custom work... Very VERY cheap prices on alumi by the way... No U-bends on the site, but the 90deg. mandrels are a decent price. The owner is awesome and will find a way to help you get what you want...

Trust me man, I'm not throwing cash away. If I had 800$ to spend on an exhaust I wouldn't have made this post. I'm looking for U-bends for that exact reason, I have a welder, I just need the material to weld. My kit should be under 800$ when all is said and done

i could build an exhaust for half that. all TIG welds by a boilermaker with over 30 years of experience.

an $800 turbo kit isnt worth your time. if youre gonna do it, do it right. none of that FMU bullshit. get some GOOD parts the first time so there only is a FIRST time. good programming and a good tune is such a big part of a successful turbo build.

$20 for a u-bend it a good price. The good thing about it is that you dont have to pay for shipping since you said it's local.

Are you looking for 180* bends or a 90* elbows (some people mistakenly call 90* elbows "U bends")? Just checking because if it's elbows your are looking for we are much cheaper than any of the links posted.

EDIT: I did a bit of searching on the websites that have been given so far and have yet to find a stainless steel 90* elbow for $12.20/ea. Are you talking about mild steel or stainless steel?

I notice you're in SLC, Ut...We are actually opening a second location for our business in St. George sometime in June.

EDIT:

i guess they must've started in vancouver

when I say $800 turbo kit where in there did you see me write FMU? People like you need to think before you write. I mean I chipped my ecu ($18) for cheaper than a fmu. If you knew what to do and had hookups you could build a badass kit for $800. Yes it might take longer to find good deals and your not going to be able to buy everything right off the bat but for sure could be easily obtainible for $800. I will show pics of my setup in a few days in the forced induction part of this site. Please tell me my kit sucks! Did I mention my best friend has a wideband and all the datalogging equipment im going to need.

oh well go pay for all the bling bling.

and sorry for getting off topic just fealt like defending myself for once.

go to any local 18 wheeler truck store. They have 3" mandrel bends all the time and are way under $20 a piece. they are mild steel but will do the trick!
