Difference between RSX Base and Type S Exhaust (length, etc.)
I assume it is all in the B-pipe? Anyone ever converted a base exhaust to their Type S?
I found a nice aftermarket catback for a good price, but it's for the base model, unfortunately.

the base b pipe is about 3 inches longer than hte S. in addition, the muffler b pipe connection is larger in hte S piping, so you can't bolt up a base muffler to an S b pipe and vice versa. let me know if you need more info, my base has seen its share of S piping.
So, all I would need is a muffler shop to whack off 3" of B-piping and a base exhaust will bolt up to the Type S? All of the hangers are the same between the two?

Yup, hanger location is same.

Be careful about where you shorten, the base cat flange (the one with 3 bolt holes) is also at a different angle than the Type S. The easy fix seems to be to shorten the mid pipe along a straight section but it still may not t fit if you do that.

if you are adding a base catback system to a type s header/cat, the shop can cut roughly 3 inches off hte b pipe and weld the 3 bolted flange back onto the b pipe(angled so it will bolt up to your S cat)

Perfect. I scored a comptech SS catback from a base for a good price. Much cheaper to mod for my S than to buy a new one.
I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
