Default miss fire or seemed lie 3cyl on 2000 GSR

really weird thing happened on the week end....
on a 2000 GSR it felt like a miss fire, or like if the car was running on 3 cylinders, just for a bit then would go back to normal...

did that a few times whyle driving downtown, stop and go, first gear only pretty much....

an old teg i used to have did that cuz of some bad wires, we check the wires and everything seemed fine, they look like new...plugs were changed last year (platinium) so i have no idea what could do this..
no heavy mods cold I/H/E never did that in the past just did it for the first time this week end....what could it be?
thanks

i would check your plugs carefully again.. pull them from the head and examine the gaps very closely.. i had the same problem with my 95 LS.. i pulled the first cylinder plug out and there was water in the cylinder.. the plug was gapped so far that it wasnt even firing and it was causing a studder upon acceleration.. try doing a power balance test and seeing if each cylinder definitely has consistent spark.. does your VTEC still engage? reply back..

well it only happened like 3 times and it was in first gear so the minute it happened
the pedal was released....

ill check the pluggs...for a code..the CEL is already on due to the O2 sensor being not plugged in because of cat back (not cat)

ill look into that more in detail thanks

Shorting your CEL yields more than one code.

You have enough gas? If you run out of gas, that could happen too

when you said you pulled out the plug on cyl 1 and u fouind water. did u literally find water or rust? i found RUST stains on the plug wires in cyl 4 on my car. i threw three codes... misfire cyl 1 misfire cyl 2 and random misfire. i got new plugs and resetted the ecu. been about a month and the light hasnt come back up. but sometimes when i hold the rev @ 2000 it feels like it is sputtering. and at idle i can hear misfire coming from the exhaust.

What is the weather like when this happens? The reason i ask is because it could be as simple as a cracked distributor cap. If you only experience it when its raining that would be my guess. Take a spray bottle and mist around the cap and wires. If you get an idle surge you've found your problem! Just a thought

good call, i was also contemplating that when i had my problem.. i never had CEL come on for my problem and i originally thought i had cracked the head because of having water in my cylinder. i honestly dont think it could be a real big deal.. but hey keep trying and if you dont figure it out just take it back to the dealer.. haha no jk but keep me updated on how your troubleshooting goes and try to be detailed about your descriptions of the encounters you come across while trying to figure the problem out.

ok well last night, we came home and decided to check some codes
the CEL has been on for ever because there is no Cat so the second 02 sensor is really out of wack....

so i got 2 codes 45 wich is lean or too rich and a 67 something with the catalist...

we decided to reset the ECU unplugging the negative connector for about 30 minutes (while we were doing something else)

anyway we drove around for a bit and the light never came back on...she went to work with it today so maybe it will light up during the day again who knows...ill keep you guys posted..

here are some pics of the car just for your eyes

I has a similar problem to that but mine threw a check engine light that said cylinder # 1 has a miss fire. Before i could take it in to get it serviced my whole engine blew up with the #1 rod and piston literally flying out of the block. After that i realized i was throwing a rod which caused my cylinder #1 to miss fire because of a bad bearing. Well i ended up getting a brand new engine from the dealer because it was still covered under warranty.

the 45 code is related to your O2 sensor #1(not only that but has something to do with), it might be givng out a bad reading to your computer for example, if the sensor is in bad shape, it might be reading that your engine is too lean when in fact its not, so the computer is trying to counter balance by rich'ing it up more...so your way too rich...or could be that your leaning out to the other extreme....but other than that i wouldnt see why your fuel pressure would be higher since you dont have a fuel pressure regulator,

other than the smell (that might not only be the car) im pretty sure that its the O2 sensor #1 and for the engine to throw a o2 #2 code, it has to go by the o2 sensor #1....

anyway point being im sure its only the #1 o2 sensor thats bad...
(joking about the smell thing)

The same scenario happend to me a couple times until the cyl. 3 completely stopped firing. I checked everything and it turned out to be a bad fuel injector wire. Somehow in between the wiring harness between the fuel injector plug and the plug on the passenger firewall went bad.

My o2 sensor plug was also a little messed up and I was throwing a code 45, but i'm' not sure if that had anything to do with the fuel injector failure.
