Default early rev limiter on b16a2 problem

hey i have a 00 si

i searched and found some possible solutions but i have a question regarding oil ..

when i drove home today, i couldnt take my car past around 6000 rpm, if i tried the rev limiter would kick in. Vtec does kick in, but it doesnt let me rev past 6000 rpm ..

i think im over due for an oil change, could this be the problem ?
also, when i searched, someone mentioned that a dented oil pan could cause this problem .. my car is pretty slammed, and i know my oil pan is gettin roughed up pretty bad .. is this the reason ?

anyway, any help is appreciated . thanks

ok if your water wasnt at 160 (maybe 190) degrees or higher, there is an unkonwn thing that is a cold rev limiter. it does the same as a rev limiter only sooner when water is cool to protect the engine. the only way to get rid of it is to reset the ecu.
