Default State referee

Has anybody gone to the state referee before? my bro got a ticket the other night at a dui check point. police open the hood and found aem cam gears? got cited for modified smog. dont know what that is. can we just put back the upper timing belt cover and take it in or do we have to get stock cam gears and cams because we bought the car like that and have no stock pieces. so the ticket stated that he has to take it to the state referee only. what do we do? any help is greatly appreciated as it has to be corrected by 5/15/2005. thats coming up real fast. thanks

yeah... i've been there..... all i gotta say is that they are really strict...... they got all kinda of diognostic computers to check everything..... i just say put everything back to stock... becasue they will find out every mod that u did....... but yeah good luck with that.... i didn't pass but i went to court and the judge let me off..... i was lucky...... because for me i would have had to swap a new engine in there... i had gsr block with civic si head..... but yeah don't stress out about it u got hella time and put ur baby back to stock........

I got the same ticket in my old car, modified smog device. I got it for a no name intake and a pace setter header. Depending on what exactly you have done and how difficult it would be to bring it back to stock I would say just don't do anything. Eventually you will get a failure to appear ($250) and have to pay that plus the actuall cost of the ticket and it will be cleared. I just paid mine last week, it was a totall of $450. By the way, the same thing applies for exhaust modified to amplify tickets. Cali sucks, there is a ticket for everything! My brother actually got one called depositing ash on a roadway for just flicking the ash off of the end of his cigarette, not even throwing it out the window.

yeah my bro got cited for adjustable cam gears. the timing belt cover was removed and that was how they saw them. other then that he just has an exhuast. but im thinking there is aftermarket cams too. will that pass without taking it apart

Did he got popped at the DUI for DUI, or did they just decied to be an *** and pull him over even though he was not DUI.
I got a ticket at a DUI for not having my lap belt on in my DA. The worst part was i had just left my house and there was the DUI. I had gone about 1mi and the cop still gave me the ticket

what kind of cams do you have? if you are on stock cams, i think if you set the gears to 0 (or wahtever stock is) they will put the sniffer on ur car and if it passes the test, you will get a sticker saying that your cam gears meet regulations. when i got pulled over for a mod exhaust, i made an appt with a state ref and took a noise test and passed@ 93.1 db on a apexi n1 catback w/ silencer on.
i just dont know why they put down that i have an auto though.

Have to wait to get a ticket....they will only check it if you have a citation for it.

the ticket is not for the exhuast. that just gave the officer probable cause to look elsewhere for modification. he wrote the ticket for adjustable cam gears. and they are not set at TDC.

did they put the car on a dyno and run the test or did the leave the car in neutral and rev it to measure the db?

Set the cam gears within stock specs and get the ticket signed off by a referee.

If u don't pass, u get one free retry. After you pass, bring the signed off ticket to court, show it to the judge, and hopefully just pay 10 dollars.
