does waxing your car once every 2 weeks or month help prevent rusting?

 

No, keeping the paint on your car keeps it from rusting. But waxing makes it look pretty.

 

yeah i know that. but it must protect the paint right cause it lay a protecting layer on the paint thus it must prevent the paint from rusting. am i wrong?

 

just dont leave your car sitting for like a week in rain and never driving it and you shouldnt have a problem with rust. and no it protects against sun damage.

this is probably appearance tho

 

think of it this way...wax protects clearcoat (in the sun) and without the clearcoat, your paint starts fading. once it fades through the primer layer, you have bare metal, which then rusts.

so in the long term, yes, wax does help. to what degree, that is dependent on your local weather (salt overspray, hot dessert sun, acid rain, etc.) moreso than waxing.
