Default Operational Fiberglass sunroof?

I am thinking about making a fiberglass sunroof for my 92 si, and making it operational. I would use carbon fiber but I don't feel like spending the extra money on it, plus I know how to do fiberglass and already have some of the materials for it. Anyway my main question is...

Do I need the seal that goes around the edge of the glass sunroof? Will it be weather tight? Anyone made one? Any suggestions?

From what I see it is going to be a relatively easy 2 piece mold, and if I have to use the weather strip, it may be held the same way the factor one was. Or if I can use some sort of aftermarket weather strip or off another car it may be easier(ie off my rx7.

I bought a sunroof at the junkyard for my mold making, and the glass and frame is separate plus the seal with the nasty black weather sealing $#!t. So soon I will make one, I am supposed to be making my custom guage pods for the eg but Its time consuming so... one will be made sooner or later, AGAIN

Thanks for any help,
Steve

Yes it would probably leak. Install the one you got from the junkyard and pull the seal and hose test it without the seal and that will tell you. I have to ask though, why are you replacing the glass with fiberglass? The glass doesn't weigh that much, most of the weight is in the track system and motor. Also why would you need a 2 part mold? I would think you could use a female mold with no problems but maybe I don't fully understand what you are trying to do. Good luck with your project, I'd like to see it when you finish it. If you have any questions with your mold feel free to IM me.

Well main reason is.. I just like tinker with stuff, I plan on making my own lower lip but I need to find a bumper cover at the junkyard so I can get it to fit right. I know a lot of the weight is in the sunroof track but when the ac isnt working its really nice to have a sunroof(ill get around to fixing it aventually). Well I weighed the sunroof and it weighs in at about 15 to 20 lbs.... I am thinking if I can make one that is about 2-5 lbs... thats not a bad weight loss(not a great one either ). Ive been making some guage pods out of fiberglass recently and trying to sell them... Havent sold any yet, I ended up giving one to a friend of mine at the bank who helped me get back my money from an e-bay scammer. I guess I am trying to get a little bit of a business started. I love messing with fiberglass... You can make such awsome stuff that no one else has. I am also thinking about doing some wibebody fenders for my 88 rx7 since I dont see too much out there I like but, thats a while away and Im not sure how you would make a fender... I am guessing that is a multiple piece mold also. But anyway... thanks for the imput... the only thing is the seal is what holds the glass in with the black tar like stuff(i forget what you call it).
