How do you break-in a high compression motor?
I have a freshly built LSVTEC motor with 11.6:1 C/R, RC 310s, Hondata, cams, etc. How would I go about breaking the motor in properly? My main concern is running really rich at low rpms especially with the 310s and not having them tuned yet with the Hondata. I would take the motor to get dyno-tuned properly so I get an ideal A/F ratio during the break-in period, but I don't want to spin the motor all the way up to 8000+ rpms yet since the rings will not have been properly seated yet. I do have the stock injectors still so I can use those for the first 1000 miles but then again I don't want to worry about detonation during the break-in. What do you guys suggest? TIA for your replies.
the hondata should be able to compensate for the 310s.
If not, then you need to have the program adjusted.
Otherwise break in is the same as any other motor. take it easy for a few hundred
miles and slowly get into it.

I followed the guideline on http://www.crvtec.com (under blcok section) for the break in
I would have the Hondata tune the 310s properly, but I don't want to take it to a dyno and spin it all the way up to 8K before the break-in? Are there any ill effects when running rich during the break-in period? I would assume running rich would be better than detonating especially during the first few miles. Thanks.
running too rich can cause problems during break in.
Like i said, a good hondata base map will compensate for the 310s.
i am not talking about any dyno tuning, just fuel mixture and drivability tuning

I only have 350 miles since the motor rebuild, I've taken it very easy and have been adding octane booster to 94 pump gas just to be safe, i'm probably running 11:2-11:3 compression with the pistons and having both the block and head decked. She's running slightly rich until I get on the dyno.

Depends on who you talk to, the man who did all my machine work trusts it for his high compression cars and he has a lot of race expirance so I'll use it.
Well from my experiance...it didnt help and did turn my plugs orange.
With that "low" of compression...you are fine on just 94 octane.
I was running 11.4:1 on 91 octane just fine...and now Im at 12:1 on 91 octane

Octane booster that you buy from the store is all marketing.
Does not raise octane a significant amount, unless you consider .1 significant.
high CR on 91 octane is fine as long as you run a little rich.
BTW, if you arent at 12:1 or higher, you arent running high compression.

So can I have a base map burned by my local Hondata authorized dealer? If not where can I pick up a good base map for break-in? Thanks
