Please help. New here. Check engine soon light comes on as I'm driving. Jumped the service connector and received the following,

Check engine soon light - 7 long blinks (or 70 I think) Something to do with the tranny controls

D4 light - 4 long blinks (something to do with VSS I think)

What could it be? What do I try next. Any help greatly appreciated

 

Is the speedo working? VSS is a common problem. If the car has OBD2 you might want to have the codes read, the 'flash' codes don't always tell the whole story.

 

The speedo does appear to be working. How do I know if it has obdII? Is it assumed based on the year?

 

Yes, your car is OBD2. Sounds like your VSS is on the way out.
