charcoal canister removed??? vaccum lines
i removed my charcoal canister and tossed it..no i have no clue where to route the vaccum line that goes to your charcoal canister and the evap purge control..motor is 98 b18b in 91 crx si..thanks.
The only one you might not want to plug up, is the one red rubber line going into the firewall. This is the vapor tube for the gas tank, it also does something else though. If you ever fill your gas tank up to much, the fuel will run into this hose. I just would not cap it off because you might build to much pressure in the tank.

I forget the exact purpose, something to do with extra gas I think, but if you get rid of it, it does increase power, by like 0.2 hp, if anything at all, its not noticable.
But yes, I plugged mine and it works just fine.

Have you tested this on a dyno to prove it ? I don't see any power gains from removing it.

And its really doing absolutely nothing just sitting there, about every 10 years your suppose to replace it, I highly doubt anyone is buying a new one. Also if you ever fill your gas tank up to the very very top, there is a chance gasoline traveled threw the one hose going into the charcoal canister, if gasoline hits the charcoal, the charcoal canister is ruined.
If it was 1990 then I would ask why your gonna remove it, but its 2005 and its pretty much useless.

what i did was i removed the vac lines connected to the purge valve. reused a small elbow line to plug the nipple at the intake manifold which went to the purge valve. (used some shoe goo and a bolt to seal the vac line) then connected the tank fume hose from the firewall to the throttle body, basically bypassing the missing charcoal canister. connecting the gas tank vent hose to the throttle body offered no benefit in terms of using gas vapors directly into the intake. it was just convenient to plug both ends.
90black is right, the charcoal is way past its expiration date. theres no reason to jump and scream about it. if you knew what it does and how it works, youd realize its worthless at this point. only problem is satisfying emissions precheck next time you need to smog your car. so keep it around if needed.
btw, i used that space to put my catch can. a very convenient spot. plus, you can utilize the tapered holder on the wall to mount it, if it helps.

No, I don't have dyno graphs, in fact I have never taken my car to a dyno. Thats just something I read on our beloved honda-tech forum. I forgot who I read it from.

Haha, funny guy.
This forum is a godsend to me, this is where I learned everything I know about my honda, except how to do an oil change and take off the wheels from the car. Everything else I learned here.
Back to topic: Well, I don't see if you remove it, how it would decrease power...

the point is that removing the canister is not for power gains or cause losses. it shouldnt have even been mentioned, especially if you've heard sometihng like "0.2hp". its just getting rid of it for the sake of weight, or looks or whatever. but not power.

Trust me, once you already know a few things. You will see so much miss information on honda-tech, there fore you need to have a few members on who you can trust. I mean anyone can post b.s on honda-tech.

Well, 0.2hp I pulled out of my ***. I have no idea if there is any power loss or gained. Now I know there is none.

I know that, I see some of the b.s. I have in the past corrected people because they were wrong. I am just glad that the misinformation I had about the charcoal canister has been ridded of. Thanks.
Honestly, the only I know about charcoal canisters is that they have a few vacuum lines going to them. Which isn't much, but other than that, I know **** about them. Damn, I don't even know their purpose, I believe it has something to do with access gas, thats just something I read on h-t, haha.

Correct. Just make sure to run a hose from the gastank vapor thing... the one on the firewall toward the ground. Everything on the TB can be plugged/capped.
U can use the vaccum diagram on the hood to double check if u'd like.
