Default Crazy custom Intake - heard of this?

My friend took his intercooler - capped off one end - and ran the other end to the TB....this was his intake - he says he can feel the gains - but i don't think so.....anyone heard of this?

I think it's a nice idea; however, i don't know if that is very much different than before....

Edit: Never mind - i just saw something that looked just like it - called a front mount intake....or something like that.....anyone heard/used it? Looks kinda ricey.

Yeah, it's stupid. It makes you really prone to hydrolock, and it looks stupid.

ricey. </TD></TR></TABLE>

that would be physically impossible bc if you capped the other end off the engine would not get any air. the air that flows through the IC just passes through and cools the air flowing through it.

yeah....that idea is poop....

sounds like a make up friend though.....dont be ashamed to share ideas.....

it would do some intercooling if you put a filter on the other opening of the intercooler, but since you would be cooling open air with open air you wouldnt be accomplishing much.....

^^dont take any offense if a friend really did this.....but his car wouldnt start like that.....

I think he's just describing what it looked like. He's talking about a front mount intake.

Did he actually use an intercooler? If so, some people have thought of this before.

They believe that the intercooler will cool the air as it enters the engine. They don't realize, however, that the intercooler is going to really restrict the air flow, making the car worse off.

And there are systems just like this on the market, just instead of the intercooler they use a flat-element filter.

Also, there is more to an air intake that how cold the air is. A really tuned air intake uses the frequencies of the air waves to increase air charge.

Not to mention the intercooler isn't going to cool the air any, since the air isn't hotter than the surround air like turbocharged air is.

Just buy a ebay intake pipe, and switch the filter with a APEXi, or K&N. DO NOT use a foam filter, they don't keep anything out of your motor.

Ive seen one of those "front mount intakes" on a civic and i looked so queer. It didnt even look like an intercooler. I guess it is the perfect complement to a huge flared body kit and z3 fenders and all the ricey parts.

Heheh, don't think for one minute that any of these companies like AEM are figuring all of that into the design of their overpriced aluminum tubes.

I always thought that they would at least TRY to do it, as it turns out, as RPM's increase, the intake length that yields the highest volumetric efficiency (air flow) decreases.
Contrary to the short ram low end, CAI top end idea, I do wonder why...

Yeah - well, i was just desciribing what it looked like....i don't see the point of it though....he lives in ohio, so no, i didn't actually see the car. I just saw crappy pictures....but i don't see how it could be any different than an AEM CAI....i think he was just bluffing....he has an 89 CRX....i found some pictures...and it looks crap. I was wondering why his "intercooler" looked so small....but oh well...

I heard of this intake, I saw it on a ricer show. It has a plexi glass cover to protect the filter or else bugs would fly in. Problem with the plexi glass is it suffocates the intake not allowing the "ram air" effect its trying to go for. my 2cents...

Air flow is not smooth. There was a couple of dynos somewhere on Honda-Tech that I can't seem to find with search where power was lost compared to a normal Cold Air Intake.
