Default Adjusting valves Lower?

Well last week i adjusted my valves and my friend told me adjust them .005 intake and .006 exhaust. I know that stock is .007 and .008 but will it make a difference in performance? Before my vtec was really loud and not its not. Should i leave it the way it is or but it back to stock?

You generally want to adjust them to spec.
If they are too tight, you run the possibility of them not sealing during the compression stroke which would cause you to loose power.
Not to mention the chance of burning a valve.

i think valvetrain wear and burning is something that should outweigh a half a hp. adjust it to stock so you don't screw stuff up.

If you have a GSR, the min exhaust is 0.007 inches and the min intake is 0.006 inches. You're only off by like 0.001 which isn't much, but I'd still open them up a tiny bit to prevent you from burning a valve up.
