Default 10-40w or 15-50w?

what weight oil should i use. i have 97 civic with 143000 miles. i also have some valve lash, and since i dont unerstand the chilton's instructions, i would like to possibly quiet it down with heavier oil. im going to use red line synthetic...10-40 or 15-50?

Get a valve adjustment, that should fix the ticking (if that was what you were hinting you have).

I would go with 10-40, no need to go higher.

give chevron supreme 10w-40 a try. you might want to try to do the valve adjustment yourself, its not that difficult.

Just something I found when doing them, a "slight drag" is more like "barely can get the gauge in and out". I did them with a "slight drag" one time and it was horrible.

EDIT: Go ahead and invest in a Helms. It's 62 dollars and will save you a TON in the long run.
