BULLISH SET TO DAZZLE VEGAS STRIP AT NHRA POWERADE EVENT

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (April 14, 2005) – Las Vegas might be the gambling headquarters of the world, but the Bullish Motor Racing team will be only betting on nothing but solid performance when the team rolls into town this weekend for the second round of the 2005 NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Series at the NHRA SummitRacing.Com Nationals, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, April 15-17. As one of the three series events held in conjunction with the NHRA POWERade Series this year, the race will once again provide a chance for team owner and driver Ara Arslanian to showcase the team’s StreetGlow Solara to a traditionally domestic-minded NHRA POWERade audience numbering in the tens of thousands.

Like the StreetGlow-sponsored Extreme Rush events of years before, Arslanian and the team see the event as an important opportunity to represent the growing and exciting sport compact drag racing phenomenon to a new audience. Unlike the Extreme Rush events, which were non-points invitational exhibitions, the NHRA has invited all sport compact pro categories to compete at two of the three joint events on a championship point’s basis for 2005. In addition, the top Pro RWD category - in which Arslanian finished third in points last year - will also be participating in the legendary U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis later in the year.

“We’ve always had great success on and off the track at the POWERade events,” said Arslanian. “I’ve always viewed these events with a personal responsibility towards showing new fans just what sport compact drag racing represents. The Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock guys do a great job and put out a great show; but I think the combination of cutting edge technology – with turbocharging, engine management, and fuel injection technology on production engines - makes sport compact drag racing really unique and maybe more identifiable with the street cars of younger fans.”

The team’s StreetGlow Solara is a perfect example of the mixing of advanced racing technology and consumer-available products that the sport compact series highlights. The 2005 Solara engine program features a twin-Turbonetics turbocharger system and an HKS 3.4 L stroker kit designed for Toyota 3.0L 2JZ Inline-6 powerplants. Both items are retail-available products from Turbonetics and HKS, yet they combine to help produce over 1,600 horsepower in the StreetGlow Solara. The Bullish team helped pioneer the 2JZ engine for drag racing use and Arslanian drove to the first ever 6-second import-powered pass in the team’s 2JZ-powered Solara in 2002. The synergy between products and the race program doesn’t end in the engine bay; primary sponsor StreetGlow is the leading supplier of automotive neon and lighting products for the 3-billion dollar-a-year sport compact aftermarket “tuner” market.

While extensive engine preparation and a purpose-built tubular race chassis is necessary for the Solara to achieve quarter-mile performances as quick as 6.64-seconds and as fast as 206-mph, the 2JZ 6-cylinder engine in the Solara started life out in a production factory just as any ordinary 1993 -1998 Toyota Supra engine. One facet of the engine preparation will be especially under the microscope this weekend will be a new head design prepared by HeadGames Motorworks’ David Localio. The new head specification was specially ported and polished to compensate for changes in the new dual-rail fuel delivery system that the team installed just prior to last weeks victory at the NDRA Maryland event.

“Three races into the season and we see nothing but potential. We’ve already run our quickest times ever and the HKS 3.4L program is only at the tip of the iceberg. Partners like Turbonetics, HKS, AEM, and Ross Machine have all stepped up for our program already, and this weekend was David [Localio’s] turn. We’re lucky to be surrounded by such a great group of people and companies, and it’s a main reason we’re so successful.”

The team’s main focus this weekend will be scoring valuable points for the season championship after a first-round upset exit at the NHRA season-opener in Moroso. The team followed up that event with a solid showing at the NDRA’s second event of the season – running consistent 6.7-second passes to the winner’s circle on a conservative tune-up. While the team is planning to turn the boost up in Las Vegas, they are still facing the challenge of maintaining their top form in the midst of a grueling 5-race, 5-consecutive weekend schedule.

“There’s no question the whole team has been running at max RPM going on three weekends now. I don’t think that any one of them would take a day off if I told them too though. That’s the nature of this team – we’re fighting for a championship at every race, every round, and every pass. And you know what? We’re going to be having fun while we’re doing it.”

The NHRA Summit Racing.Com Nationals will be broadcast on tape-delayed basis on ESPN2, Thursday, April 28, 2 p.m. (Sunday, May 1, 1:30 a.m., repeat) In addition, up to the minute results will be updated on http://www.NHRAsportcompact.com.
