Default Falken Azenis vs. Yokohama ES100

Falken Azenis or the Yokohama Es100, which are better? How many miles can i expect to get out of the Azenis...i heard they are really grippy tires and are excellent with traction, but dont last too long. Will I be able to drive in rain with the Azenis? I am goin to be mounting these tires on my GSR blades, which i only put on the car in spring/summer. Both cost about the same price, which is a better choice, the Azenis or the es100?

I have Azenis on my car now and ES100 waiting for them to wear out. I live in Hilo (Hawaii) and rains a lot. I never had a problem with hydroplaning. I don't think they wear out too fast, but the ******* are noisy when they do wear out. Around 40 MPH is when they sing. If you were to pull out a little higher in RPMs than normal on wet road, they will spin. I gotta try out the ES100 before I can make a comparison. I like the Azenis though.

Azenis is a track tire...not daily driven/cambered car friendly. People who run the azenis usually have to replace them after a couple of months, and in some cases, one month since they have a very soft rubber compound. As for the es 100's, its a harder compound and more for daily driving. They do pretty well on wet roads as well. You wont have the traction as you would if you were to go with azenis at a track event, but then again....i dont know how you drive. Since these are for your gsr's, then i'd recommend the es100's. I'm currently running those on my gsr for the past 4 months and tires are still MEATY!

I've had both tires and i like the azenis a little better.. the azenis i feel haw better traction and seems like it holds up better when i corner hard. with the es100, it feels like the car is sliding a little. i only had the azenis on my car for about 2 months before i gave them to my brother, they are louder then the es100 though.

I'm a fan of my ES100s, and I will probably get another set when these wear out. They are good all around tires, the Azenis just aren't as daily street friendly.

This is my second time owning some Azenis and I absolutely love em. My previous wheel and tire combo was 15 inch Buddy club wheels with 4 205/50/15 Azenis. Currently I'm running 16 inch Rota CP8's with a pair of 215/45/16 Azenis up front and a pair of 205/45/16 ES100's. Before I bought a pair of Azenis for the fronts I'd have to say that the ES100's were less noisy, had better traction in rain, and probably would last a lot longer. I think it all depends on what you really want. I love the performance of the Azenis for the price.

azenis = autoX'ers dream. cheap and sticky and DOT legal so you race in street tire classes

cool, thanks for teh opinions...as i said, the GSR blades are gonna be for the spring/summer. overall, they are gonna be used for local driving and occasional track runs. from what i have heard, i think i will go with the yokohama avs es100 in a 205/50/15 size. i like the azenis, but i dont want to have road noise either. thanks for the opinions...while we are on the tire subject, does anyone have comments on the kumho ecsta supra 712? i kno they arent as good as the avs es100, but still, id like to hear wat ppl have to say about them

I have owned all 3 of the tires you mentioned: ES100's, Kumho 712's, and the Azenis.

The Azenis are being fazed out for the newer Falken 615 (???), which is a more expensive, but equally capable tire.

The Azenis are the ultimate for grip in a street tire, at an affordable price. They aren't made for standing water, but if the road is "just wet" (no standing puddles) they are actually sticker than most any road tire on the market. I take turns in the wet that would put me in a ditch with the Kumho's, Nitto's, etc. Little noisy, don't last quite as long as the es100's, but I get about 18,000 miles out of mine, but the last few thou, are really slippery, so maybe about 15k, usable. That includes about 4-5 auto-x events with 2 drivers, and about 7 runs, minimum, plus really hard daily driving (I go through perf. friction brake pads about every 3 month, if that's any indication... )

ES100's are next and have a little better life, but are not quite the grip, or feel that the Azenis have. You would prolly be very happy with these if you decided to get them.

Kumho 712's/Nitto's 450's, etc. are nice looking tires at a good price, but lack most of the performance (i.e., grip) of a real performance tire. If you never take the turns hard, you won't know the difference, but if you actually enjoy the the turns, I suggest the Azenis, and then the es100's.

Someone mentioned the Parada Spec II's. I think these are very good tires, but from what I have seen, cost more than the Falken's and I feel, offer slightly less traction. Their plus is that they come in more large sizes...

Hope it helps,
Adrian
(who will drive on Azenis until the wheels fall off...)

I bought the ES100 3 weeks ago and I can say they are really nice on rain and dry! I use to have the A520 before wich were a bit like azenis, really grippy, really hard shoulder for cornering but damn noiesy and didn't last long... I had 3 sets of them for about 50k wich is not a lot... But right now I can say that i'm pretty happy with the ES100... For the rest, it will all depend how you'll calibrate you suspension...

I also just got some ES100's about 2.5 weeks ago. My experience differs from all the others here -- they're the worst tires I've ever tried so far. The sidewalls are waaaayyyy too soft. The steering feels so mushy, it's almost sickening. I've tried them out in the rain, and they're not too bad. In the dry, they're about at the same level as Kumho 712's I've had before. They're a whole lot worse than the RE730's I've had on the car right before these.

Azenies were excellent in the dry, but of couse, as stated above, they're not the best in the cold/wet.

I would strongly suggest Kumho MX's. Although I haven't tried them out yet, seems 99% of the people that have, like them. I will definately get these for my next set of tires. (or S03's)

I've tried all 3 tires on both the DB and DC chassis. Here's what I think:

Yokohama Parada Spec-2: This was a favorite of mine about 3 years ago, when the es100 was just releasing. They can handle most demands of a daily driver, road noise is not high, and they dont wear out too quickly. The sidewalls almost run completely parallel to the lip of the rim, which I thought looked cleaner than the **** you see with tires like the Falken Ziex 512.

Yokohama AVS es100: Now my favorite tire and only choice for my ride. Great tire through out teh year, does not wear out real quickly, even if you occasionally drive hard, grips well in most daily driving scenarios. I went 22,000 miles on my last set. Not extremely expensive either. Main reason why I dont buy Parada Spec-2's anymore is, they dont offer a 15" tire..

Falken Azenis: Lots of grip, def. suitable for autocross or weekend carving. I wouldn't want to daily drive on these again. They look good on most cars due to the beefy structure, but for me, its not worth the money of replacing them every 8,000-10,000 miles (approximate). Not to mention, wet weather grip sucks and they grip like **** once you go past 70% tread

what i run:
none of the above. there's a neat tire place near me that imports used euro market tires, and i get them for $27 each w/o install w/ about 4/32 tread on them. eh, they last about 4-5k miles, but that's $27 for practically an R-compound tire here. think: 120 wear rating, AA traction, A temperature, that's 205/50R15, with stiff-@$$ sidewalls, huge shoulder tread blocks, you get the picture. they all sorts of different brands to choose from, and at least a hudred 205-50R15's, which are impossible to get used anywhere else. but i did like the wear and performance on the Continental Sports i had. don't know if the euro ones are the same as here, but they were a good balance.

Mine didn't work great at first either, but after they flatten down a little so you don't see thoses rings on the sides they stick much better.

I've had experiences with 3 of the tires: the Yokohama Parada spec 2, the Yokohama ES100 and the BFGoodrich Gforce Sport.

My first set of tires were the Yokohama Parada Spec 2's. They were a decent tire with an adequate amount of grip. They also lasted me a long time too. The only complaint I had was that when I did approach the limits of the tire, it wasn't as predictable as the other tires. It was also a little bit more pricier than the others.

The Yokohama ES100 used to be my favorite tire. The sidewalls seemed stiffer than the Paradas and it had more grip than those. The only complaint was that it progressively got noiser and noiser as it wore down.

The BFGoodrich Gforce Sport, what I'm running right now is my new favorite tire. It is affordable (cheaper than the ES100) and yet it performs much better than the ES100. The sidewalls don't flex as much as the ES100 and they do offer more grip. I think the best part of this tire is its ablility to break from its limit progressively. It doesn't snap at the limit like the other tires but it tells you and progessively breaks it. This is something that really sets it apart from the ES100.

That's how long my Azenis lasted, about 1-2 months and now they're bald.

You might have caugh a bad set...it happen to me once with A520. I'm hard on tire an I break something inside the tire shoulder... They feld weird after that an even scary! An other thing is I don't know what size your running on but according to yokohama website, there's size in the ES100 that come with a special reinforcement in the shoulder and some sizes not... You better go an find out!

As for treadlife on the BFGoodrich Gforce Sports? How long have you had them? Did you hear about or find out what the treadlife is supposed to be?

I need to replace my ES100's, they lasted about 15-18K and I was thinking about trying out the Gforce tires as long as they last atleast the same as the Yoko's
