Default OT: Funny Story

I got the idea for this off a similar post last week but i though i'd share with all of you:

i was coming home from go-kart racing tonight at a local track here near philly and happened upon a familar site for most of us, a hopped up civc with chrome wheels (sorta just like mine with a little more *bling*) racing through traffic all F&F like. i dont street race but i decided to have a little fun with him. since he was definitely trying to 'start' some thing with me, i decided to put on my helmet that i had from being at the kart track and roll up revving on him a bit to get his reaction. he looked over and was histerical!! it was soo funny to see this homeboy cracking up!! when i caught up to him again (without helmet) i gave him the , he smiled and we went our seperate ways.

see, ricers and real racers can get along!

Tom

Yeah, but what were the odds that you would get up next to a real racer on the street to try?

I was really temped to do the same thing a while back...only driving normally with a helmet and watch people's faces. But, I didn't do it.............but one of my passengers did that while I was driving once and it was pretty funny......and he also did some funny chit while driving ...but that's another story....hahahaha

I used to to that quite often when I was getting used to my new helmet. I don't know if anybody noticed me, but it sure felt funny. Try it sometime, your brain has an automatic reaction to having the helmet and you start focusing on turn in points and braking points down streets you drive every day. I had to do this with the 6pt harness too, a while back, to get used to the sub-belts.

It's illegal in some states. VA is one of them. Not sure what others.

Not if you drive around with a DOT rated M helmet. But a non-DOT approved helmet would be illegal. That's why the Snell M classification allows for larger eye ports, so that M helmets are DOT legal. A Snell SA helmet does not necessarily have a large enough eyeport for full peripheral vision. Directly from Snell..."SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets may not be street legal)"

I can't remember exactly who it was that was telling me about this... maybe Warren? Apparently it's considered a visual obstruction.

To confuse things more, helmets are mandatory (as they should be) for motorcyclists.

How is being in a car with a helmet on any different than being on a bike with a helmet on?
Is this even a real question?
