Hey,
I was talking with Crower about using stage 3 cams in my car and was informed that they where now on sale. Only 499 for most of their H22A cams. I talked with Brian there, he was a cool guy. Just wanted to let you guys know as the sale was just started a few days ago. Also, the ones on sale are their newest Gen 3 designs. FYI, I am not getting paid or anything by Crower, just wanted to let you all know. Mods if this needs to be moved or removed, feel free.

your going to need more than 11:1 to take full advantage of the stage 3's. i'd say atleast 11.5:1. they will help but not to their full potential...

Well, I am not shooting for the most crazy horsepower numbers or anything. Just the most I can get on pump gas and still be somewhat reliable. If I don't make that extra 5hp or so, I won't lose much sleep.

If that's the case then why not get the stage 2?

Hes been bitten by the horsepower bug. They are on sale, why not get stage 3's? in the event you want more power ( which everyone on this site does ) he can just throw some JUN pistons in there or something and not have to go buy new cams.
are they improving on the manufacturing process, I have READ many threads complaining about these snapping. And My friend had one break on his B16. I never found an explanation on why so many crower cams where snapping, but I thought i would throw that out there.
The new cams that are on sale are supposed to be 20% stronger, making them stronger than OEM. I've been hesitant to buy Crower because of snapping problems, but now I'd feel a little safer.

Exactly... the future is what's important. And I have looked at all the dyno's from stage 3's and seen the torque curves damned near completely flat. I like that. And I already have ITB's, going to have some very minor head work done. So I figure it will make me more power then Stage 2's, even if it's not much, so why not do it.

Im probably gonna purchase the stage 2 cams.

Im probably gonna use the Rocket motorsports spring/retainer kit from kteller.com its 265.
Does anyone know if the stage 2 crowers have a somewhat lumpy idle.

SuperTech Valvetrain is good I've been using it in my Lude for over a year with Crower Stage 2's and never had any issues, also using their flat valves which bump the compression a slight bit..... I'm Interested in the stages 3's but I hear that using the stage 3 cams that you have to grind the rocker arms a little bit, anyone done this?

If I understand correctly, you machine the rocker arms if you use the retainers that have a +.060" installed height. This allows for more spring travel. I do not know if this is neccessary for the Stage 3 cams, or just recommended. I guess I will soon find out as I am going to be using Skunk2 retainers.

Any word on this? I am planning on using the Skunk2 valve train as well and I can get a good deal on some 'gently used' st. 3 cams (1k miles for 310 shipped)....bump for anyone else who may have this question. Any modification needed?

Idle on the Stage II's are the same as stock. Driveability on them is good, and the perfomance increase is very noticable. I picked up 20whp with them tuned on a VAFC.
So basically as long as the car is tuned (which it should be anyway...) the idle should not be an issue? Especially with some sort of controller ( I will most likely go with Hondata.)
The idle is the same on the stage II's. As for tuning, DO NOT go into VTEC before tuning, maybe just for a couple hundred RPM's so you know its working, before tuning. Those stage II's went way off the lean scale on my first run on the dyno.

Got my bump sticks today... waiting for the rest of my valvetrain. I will let everyone know when it is installed.

They recommend you get aftermarket valve springs and retainers. I too would recommend them.
