Default 92 Civic Sqeals and Screams when starting up!!! Help My Honda Peeeeps!!!

As the post says...when I start up my car in the morning or after it has been sitting for an hour or longer, it makes this awful screaming/squealing noise and after about 5-10 seconds it goes away. Its been doing this for some time now. I check my belts and they seem fine (no cracking or fraying), any suggestions on what this could be???? And it happens with no AC on and it is coming from under the hood..ll

just looking at the belts wont let you know all the time if they are bad, try spraying a little belt dressing on them one at a time before you start it up next time just so you can be for sure, if it helps then change the belt(s). Hope my $.02 helps

A method that has always worked for me is to use wd-40 on the pulleys, one at a time, while turning the car on and off. Once you locate which pulley the noise is coming from, you know which belt/pulley to change, and hopefully the wd-40 temporarily eliminates that awful noise.

Thank you guys very much for all your help and fast info. All it was was a belt adjustment. My alternator belt was just a little bit loose. I used a wrench to adjust the screw that allows you to adjust the belt....It works perfectly now....No more noise!!!!
