Octane Question
Now that gas is becoming really expensive, I wanted to ask all of you luders out there what type of gas I shoul be pumping into my car. In the owner's manual it suggests I should use 91 octane or higher. Well, there's 87 octane, 89 octane, and 93 octane. So since i've bought the lude i've been pumping premium gas into it. Is this right, or could I be using lower grade fuel with no adverse side affects? Any help is definitely appreciated. Thanks!
Fill your tank halfway with 93 and halfway with 89. Using only 93 will cause you to waste gas, and using 89 or lower will have adverse effects with regards to performance.

I just mixed some 93 and 89 to test it out. 76, The official brand of NASCAR!

That's what you get for living in a cool state. Move to a ******* city (like memphis, tn for example) and you can buy 93 octane for $2.35 (just filled up).

You guys really think that you are getting the gas that you are paying for? I used to run 93 but then was shown that all the years of paying for higher octane most the time you are not getting that octane. I run 89 now and have been for a while and can not tell the difference between 89 and running 93 in my car.

theres a damn good article. There IS a difference, it might not register a ton on the butt dyno, but it really does make a difference.

if the guy in the link running 89 had backed off his timing a little, the curve wouldn't be so erratic. I paid way too much for my dohc to bitch about an extra $0.10 a gallon difference between 89 and 93. Easily worth the extra dime to me, but I guess, according to the article, if you don't have a knock sensor, it doesn't matter.

Appreciate it man. Check this out. It's from last month, but that's a problem I wouldn't have thought of with rising gas prices.

The h22a is made to use higher octance because of it's high compression</TD></TR></TABLE>
10:1 isn't that high. i wouldn't go any lower than 89. the car has a knock sensor for a reason, if the gas causes excessive knocking you will hear it and notice the difference, i have personaly run 89 with no problem
if you had 11:1 + then i might say run only premium

Hey I always wanted to know by how many point's in octane does it go up when you use those octane boosters? and which one is the best.
Read the back of the bottle. But when it says it brings octane up 3 points, 91 octane doesn't become 94, it becomes 91.3. Besides, this is OT. Make another thread for this or, even better, search.
How is something that is related to octane off topic? I could be and alternative to mixing gas. But thanks to you we now know that its not adequate enough for what hes trying to do. THANK YOU xthephilx.
You guys in the US make me laugh !! if any of you ever came over to our little island then you would fall over laughing at the price of our 'gas' Currently i pay $6 for a gallon off Shell Optimax in the UK which is 97 octane. But in my H22a you cant really tell the difference but a leading magazine tested Optimax against regular unleaded and found that although the performance was slightly greater they said that it kept the internals a lot cleaner which makes it worth it in my book!

, but who cares?
