Default question about SH suspension

What brand shocks will work with the SH model?

I know this has probably been covered many times before, but i could not find a straight answer on waht setup would be compatible with the SH.

Will any shocks work as long as you change the springs also or are there going to be complications?

thanks guys

As long as you don't lower the **** out of it, you'll be fine with the ATTS unit.

im using the eibach prokit on stock shocks. been that way for over 2 yrs and my shocks are not blown or anything. How much are you looking to spend ? Id go with some D2 or Tein full coilovers if i had the cash.

how are the tein basics ? are they even worth it or should i just go ahead and spend it on some shocks?

I am currently running on tein s-tech springs with stock shocks and i havent had any problems with them. They ride perfect.

I was just wondering if aftermarket shocks will work with the SH cars? if so, does it have to be a certain brand like koni, tokico, etc?

thanks again

Contact us on these. I believe if you have SH springs, they work with the factory shocks but if you have aftermarket shocks, you need to use Non-SH springs. Therefore, if your aftermarket springs are SH specific and you want to change your shocks, you need to get stock shocks or get non-sh springs as well.

Sorry if this sounds confusing. It is!

... would that make your suspension like a base then? at least in the front..

is there any possible way to use aftermarket shocks with any aftermarket SH springs?

As of right now i am on tein s-tech springs with stock shocks and it rides great, but i want that comfort of going over bumps and dips without bottoming out.

thanks for the input guys!

the radius rods and everything are different on an SH. even with base model shocks and springs im willing to bet it still wouldent fit. All different legenths and parts.

I personally have not tried to fit base model anything on my car, but just from looking over some diagrams and stuff, i just dont see it happening.

tokico makes a shock that works. if you search around you should be able to find a few vendors.

i was advised to just get the tein flex system (planning on that in a few months when the cash flow increases).. that should be fine and not mess with the atts.. its made specifically for the sh i believe.. check out their website, has all the stats : )

I have the tein type basics on my fourth gen and i love them. Little stiff but you'll get used to it. Cornering improved greatly due to lowering and at the same time i installed ignall camber kits with poleyurthane bushings. I can feal every little bump and imperfection on the roads. I think the poleyurthane bushings in the camber kits contribute to most of the feedback. But on a smooth road or track your in heaven.

Ok, here is a concrete answer. As far as I know, there is not a single company that makes struts for the 5th gen SH. The way to get around this is to replace your SH springs with base stock springs (to keep stock high for SCCA or anything else) or to use lowering springs. Once you use other springs, then you can get any strut made for the 92-01 Prelude and they will fit and work fine. The SH springs are slighly longer than base thus not allowing base struts without replacement of springs.

Someone mentioned that if you did this then you would get a base suspension in the front. The only difference between the base and SH suspension is the ATTS unit.

If you have any more questions feel free to contact me.

So we still have no solid answer..

We have 10 people saying "this is the right answer." but they are all slightly different..

Bump for more info.

i know for a fact tokico makes shocks for the SH.

I think what everyone is trying to say is no one makes a shock to use WITH the stock springs. If you need the car to remain stock height for racing purposes to stay in the right class, use the base springs with any shock you wish.

So for use in this thread, there are a few companys that make shocks that can be used with aftermarket springs on a type SH.
