How-To: Go about getting my Motorcycle liscence?
Hello everyone... I was wondering how I go about getting my Motorcycle liscence. I would like to get one in the future and need to get my liscence first. I didnt go to the DMV and ask because they require me to pick a number and wait 2 hours to give me a 10second answer. Thanks guys
Either what Mag00n said or you can take the MSF course. Once you pass you get a slip saying that you completed the riding test and you just take the written at the DMV. And you should be all set.

If you have zero experience on a bike, or just because it's a better idea, take the MSF course. They'll teach you the basics of riding (while doing it safely), get you familiar with the bike, and passing this class is much easier than taking the road test at the DMV (so I've heard). You can also take your written test at the DMV prior to taking he MSF class. That's what I did. All I had to do was turn in the completion slip from MSF to the DMV and I was a certified M1 licensee.
BTW: Screw waiting in those ridiculous lines, call the DMV or go to thier website to make an appointment. It makes life easier. And also, if you haven't renewed your class C license within a year, be ready to take a written test for that too. It'll be one side of one the regular test.

I assume its just like the class you take to get your class c permit? Do i need a bike also in order to get my liscence or do they loan me one to use to pass the MSF course or would i need to borrow one?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yep it's just like a driving school but for bikes. Normally they break it down into three days (5 hours each) So the first day you'll be in a class learning the basics and motorcycle safety. Other two days break down to 10 hours of riding on the bike. They provide the bikes and helmets and gloves but I don't recommend wearing the gear that they provide. It's a lot of fun and you definitely learn a lot from the class. It's usually at your local community college but check the website out for that. http://www.msf-usa.org/ I had to ride a rebel 250 with a crushed tank and messed up tranny that wouldn't shift up into 2nd, but I still managed to pull off a perfect score

Take the MSF, I didn't even have to get a permit because I passed the course.
It was the best 150 I've ever spent.

Dont waste your time on how to ride books.
Take the MSF course, there is no substitute for this. I know of buddies that learned to ride by having the guy that owned the bike double with him while he drove it. Seriously stupid method begging for a fall.
I dont know about US regulations but in Ontario Canada if you already had your learners license when you took the MSF course they gave you your full license upon comletion. I did my course about 17yrs ago so this has probably changed with graduated licensing being introduced in Ontario.
Take the course, you'll learn everything from stopping, turning, using the center stand to how to properly wait at a stop.
