blown head gasket...help
my 88 crx si has many symptoms of a blown head gasket (compression test 1-160 2-120 3-150 4-160 white exhaust smoke and often jerking from the motor) im just looking to try and do the fix myself. i have a d series motor and i just need a link possibly 2 buy a new gasket...i would also appreciate if someone had a guide to remove the head and the specs on the bolts when putting it back on....yeah i no i can buy a manual but i thought i would ask around first
well you should be a Head Gasket Set. it has everything you need to do the job. You can buy it from Honda local. it includes all the gaskets related to the head.
you may also need to have your head re-surfaced.
also go buy a manual like a helms. they have a step by step guide to everything related to your car. the manual will also have torque specs.

first, i'd suggest not driving on it at all till its fixed, seems common sense but i know people who think otherwise. (my sister). if you go to a different parts store you can get the gaskets a lot cheaper than the dealer. you will need the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and headgasket. if its leaky, get a valvecover one, too, but i've never actually replaced one of those.
are you near due for a timing belt/water pump? this is the perfect time...
if you're not taking the timing belt off, just put the motor at tdc for cyl 1. and pull the cam gear off. drain all fluids, especially coolant (through the huge plug on the front of the block).
there's a procedure to taking of the head, you start in the middle and work outward alternating sides, i think by a quarter turn or half turn a piece till the head bolts are loose.
check the head and block with a straight edge, and don't forget, and remember, they could be warped, but they could also have a hairline crack in them. hopefully you got lucky and caught it early enough.
for putting it back on, just get something like a haynes or helms. its a lot to explain the cleaning and torque-down sequence over this.

thanks for the help guys but i dont really think that all this is worth replacing cause i might just buy a used d16z6 and boost it later on cause the d16z6 that i have right now is not in good enough condition even if i were to replace the gaskets
PM me if u no of a nice condition d16z6 that is for sale thanks
