how do you know if you have bad shifter cables?
Just what the title says. How would you know if they were damaged or worned etc?
well, my car as of right now is stopped in front of my house due to it being stuck in 3rd gear. I can move the shifter up and down without engaging the clutch and feels like there is no gear there. Nothing at all and i it will not move left to right or even go in neutral.
thanks

Syncro would be if its always popping out of gear. Syncro is what hear in place so it doesnt slip out.
Drive your car along at about 45 in 4th gear, then downshift into 3rd. When you let go of the clutch, does it stay in gear, or does it make a dirty grinding noise and pop out of 3rd?
Try this, if it pops out im pretty sure its your syncro. Maybe T/O bearing?
Thats all i can help you with bro, good luck.

try to move the lever on the tranny by hand (where the cable connects to). If it doesn't move, then take the cable off the lever and try again. If it moves the second time, then it's the cable. If not, then its in the tranny.
