shifter cable packed it in?
So my car has been off the road for 12 months or so, and now that I'm using it again, it is really hard to shift gears. My mechanic has tried putting a bit of lube in there, but didn't really seem to help.
Could it be the shifter cable? Anyone know if it is a difficult job to replace one?
thanks in advance

ok a test to see if it is ur cables are bad.... take your center councel off and disconect the cables from the shifter itself and then go under the hood and disconect them from the tranny, it should only be two cotter pins that hond them on, after geting the cables free on both ends push and pull on the cables themselves (as if you were shifting) if they are stiff to move your cables are bound and you need new ones ($400) if they move freely then it is either the tran it self or the shifter bushings. i had the same prob with my 93 vtec and it was the cables that got bound up from using a short shifter. the cables alone from honda are $400 but they are kinda easy to replace. you just have to put the car on jacks and then disconect the exhaust from the cat back so u can gt to the 4 10mm bolts that hold the cables in place as they pass through the floor board. the rest is basic ****. good luck!!!
