A little apprehensive to buy the YZF600R
I have been doing alot of reading, but im still not sure what to do.
I am financing a bike right now, and yamaha has a killer deal. $39 a month, for 24 months. And the way i sit right now, my car will be paid off by mid 2006, so when i have to refinance the bike, i wont have a car payment anymore.
I got approved for $7500 with yamaha. more then enough to cover the cost of the 600R where i live. I got quoted like $7023 out the door when i was at the dealer this morning. They dont have one there, but will get one for me if thats what i decide.
Heres the dilema.
They have a 05 Black/Raven R6 on there showroom. That bike is super super hot.
they want $7895 for it, before tax, so like just under $8500 out the door. Thats like $1500 more then the 600R., and really $1500 that i dont really want to put into that, or have for that matter. heh.
Does anyone on here ride a 600r, and ride with groups of people? How do you fair against the other bikes.
I know the 600r pulls up to 12 more hp than the R6 before 10k rpms, but the r6 takes off from there, plus the 600r weighs considerably more then the r6.
ahh maybe im just venting. I just dont want to put $7-$8k into a bike and regret it before the summers over.

If you're financing, you shouldn't worry about the 'out the door' price. You should figure out how much you pay a month and multiply it by how many payments to finish it at w/your APR. Usually, you'll end up paying like $13k or so for a $8k bike. Then who gives a **** if you pay a little more 'out the door' for an R6?
What's your APR on the Yamaha card? Since, you'd basically be swiping a card for the purchase, you can pay the remaining balance on another credit card. People do it all the time. I just don't suggest financing w/crazy APR. Sometimes, on Yamaha card, APR can be over 20% after the introductory rate. Do the math.

i can guarantee you won't get sick of it in the first month. unless you only care about keeping up with having the latest and baddest bike to show off. like i said in your other thread, i have absolutely no problem keeping up with my buddies on their gixxers and i can easily outrun them in the twisties on my porky 600r. also, i think those numbers for the r6/600r hp comparison is between the 1st gen r6 and the current 600r, the r6 makes quite a bit more power now. if you're gonna keep the bike for lets say, 4 years and still making payments, i would just go with the r6 since you'll be happier in the long run. but if you pay it off in 1-2 years, go with the 600r. my 2 cents

Who said anything about showing off? Id assume you usually ride with people around your skill level, and if they all have supersports and you have a yzf600r youll constantly have the difference between the bikes right in front of your face. And frankly, like i said, get a leftover, pay alot less and bam, best of both worlds. The r6 isnt so unforgiving that its a horrible begginner bike compared to the 600r.
bad choice of words. what i should've said is, people are always gonna want the best that is out there instead of appreciating what they already have. but like scarey said in scribes' other thread, its comparing apples and oranges. if i remember correctly, scribes said a lot of the riding he'll be doing is on the freeway and if he can't get an r6 for less than what has already been offered to him (which is already an awesome deal by cali standards), i'd say its a safe bet to go with the 600r.
Point being...he doesnt alread have anything, so the appreciation of what you have as opposed to wanting something better really doesnt apply. I know....for a fact, that there are leftover 04s like everywhere, and he could most likely pay alot less then a new r6, especially the raven. I feel like any ability you have to keep up with 600+ ss bikes is simply your buddies not being good riders since they are on on alot faster, better handling, and lighter machines.
yea obviously if a gixxer600 can't burn an outdated porky 600r, the gixxer rider lacks skill and i don't consider myself to be great in the twisties to begin with. there's guys up in ortega on ninja 250s that would totally annihilate me. my point is, not everybody is a pro racer and most people don't even take their ss bikes to kneedrag. and i'm talking about IF he were to get the 600r, he might not appreciate it because he might want an r6 in a few months.
I ride a 600r and I prefer it over my buddies 2000 R6. Granted it is big and bulky, but its a very comfortable bike. Its quite a bit more comfortable over the R6. Not everyone wants to ride a "track bike" on the street. When my buddy and I give it off the line, we are dead nuts untill the top of 2nd (if I can get it into 2nd, I'd recomend the shift kit for the 600r right away) and then he slightly pulls. IMO it's a great commuter/travel bike and it still just as fun as the R6. I'd say do it, buy the 600r if your looking for a comfortable yet quick bike, I love mine and think you would love yours.
