so my car is pissing clutch fluid like it is its job. im pretty sure its coming from the clutch damper, but my question is can i/should i just remove it or what the hell is the purpose , it just gets in the way!

discuss.. need input!

i also didnt bother posting a pick from slhondaparts or hondaautomotiveparts because in their diagrams it looks like a bottle cap from 40 feet away.

 

I'm interested in this as well. I did some research a while ago and all I could find is that it's mainly an option on luxury/high end cars and lessens the stress on the clutch.

I could easily be wrong so somebody who knows fo sure post up some info.

 

If you want to remove it, just replace it with a line that connects the clutch line where it used to sit.
Removing it t should make the clutch more responsive.

 

anyone have a good picture of this? I want to know what you guys are talking about. Today I change my clutch and I want to see what it looks like.

 

its attached to the passenger side frame rail almost under the abs unit if you have abs.

the 4th gen one is different but its the same idea...

i think:
its basically working the way a brake booster does on like a big truck, using some sort of diapragm and/or spring to lessen the amount of pressure needed on the pedal....

i think youre better off without it.....i would love to just get a stainless line from master cyl to slave....

anyone done that?? it would make things a lot easier.....no freakin dampers, banjo bolts, and all kinds of ****....

I think that's what I'm going to do. Horsepowerfreaks has SS lines for like $20 in any color you want...

 

This is what I want to do also. And is why I'm asking. I've seen this done on a Civic Hybrid but forgot the users name. My concern is also the amount of line pressure loss with the braided hose vs. the hard line tubing.

You can remove it. I didn't have one when I did my 5spd conversion on the h23. Just ran a line between there, it was fine. However, I do have one installed after the h22 and RHD conversion... so, either way works.

 

What kind of line did you run in it's place? Where can one get a line to replace the damper?

 

The line that I used was a tripple layer hose (internally braided with a rubber outer covering). The line was made at a local place in town (MAP Enterprises - they do a lot of hydrolics, lines, fittings, on commercial grade trucks with arms and booms). Gave them the length needed and the two ends of the hard-line, and they had the hose made in a few days. My current line (had to have it made shorter for the rhd) is a stainless braided with a teflon coating... same fittings.

For those who have removed the clutch damper, how's your clutch pedal feel now? Is it stiffer? If so, would it be super stiff that it's not very streetable? Or just slightly stiffer than stock, and very streetable? Thanks very much.

 

Im having the same problem with my clutch damper on my 92 si. Is there any downside to running a flex line straight from the m/c to the slave?

 

as long as the flex line wont expand under pressure it will be ok......

i still havent gotten this done, im going to soon.....i just need to find a brake shop that has braided tubing like that....

if anyone on here has had one made locally, ill pay for you to go get another one made and ship to me....let me know....

does anyone know the size and thread pitch of the fittings both at the mc and slave?
i talked with a brake line fab shop and they said they could do it. i just dont want to disconnect the lines just to see the size if i dont have to.

 

bmw owners take this out regualrly. On bimmers, its called the clutch delay valve. Apparently, it helps a lot when launching to not have this.

 

no-one has a spare clutch m/c and slave lying around, or maybe the old fittings if youve replaced the line? I really need the specs for the fittings to get this thing fabbed!!

i got a previously leaking m/c in poor condition laying around, it was leaking from the pedal area though, not the lines. I got two slave cyclinders laying around. Do you just want the measurements for the fluid line inputs/output?
