Hi

I have noticed there is some cracking noise coming from underneath the steering wheel after I put the key in and turn it to the ON position (but the car is not started). The noise is noticable and never stops as long as the key is in the ON position. Does anyone know what could be wrong here? My car is a 1995 prelude si.

crackling noise? like chesnuts on an open fire? from that description I'd say that you have a short that I'd be tearing into that column and seeing if there are any exposed wires....Have you noticed any weird electronic things happening, lights/wipers/horn randomly going off?

The noise is like "tak, tak, tak ... " (sorry, I am not really good at this ) After looking at the issue closely, it seems the noise is actually from steering column. Does anyone know where I can find a write up on how to take the steering column off?

Yes, I have noticed the interior light for the place you can adjust the temperature and the light for the cigarette lighter is off. However, they are off all the time.
