i disagree.
i have 15" wheels with polished lips and my wheels and tire come just_to_the edge of the body. the tires are 225-50 and the car is on eibach sportlines. it has a very aggressive, low/wide look akin to a "street fighter" look. very subtle and clean. approaching the car on the road (i.e highway), the lips are very noticable and the car looksstunning.
i think larger wheels do look good on the ep3, but i think it's too ubiquitous. i wanted simple, clean, agressive with a lot of tire options, great performance, and i didn't want to leave the wheels vulnerable to potholes. i think the 15" wheel-tire combo fits this bill in an excellent manner. i haven't even touched on the affordability of 15" combinations.
overall, though, it really lies in the preference of each individual owner. if i were get larger wheels, i would choose 17" for the tire options.

already have 17s and i don't like them
i think the 15s look really good even if they seem kinda small
the lip on the greenies should be polished...NOT chrome.
