05 YZF600R vs. YZF-R6
Well, heres my situation.
I want a bike that i can have fun on. Keep up with some of the other bikes in town, take out on some twisty roads, etc.
but i also would be using it to get to and from work, and run little errands.
I live in a pretty small town, about 20,000 people, and would only be on the freeway when going out of town. Most of the time would be in 60mph zones.
I love the price of the YZF600R, but for barely an extra $1k, the R6 seems the way i am leaning.

Meh. Either one, really. Although the R6 will be less comfy than the 600R, it's a pretty comfy sportbike.

i dunno what the prices are like where you live, but in most cases, you can get the yzf600r for 7k out the door. if you get a new r6, you'll most likely be paying around 9k out the door.
the yzf600r is much more comfortable, more stable for the type of riding you'll be doing, much more forgiving, and remember its more fun to haul *** on a slower bike than it is going slow on a fast bike. also, it's mostly the rider. my buddy has an 03 gixxer and i can lose him in a matter of 3 turns up in the canyons. change out the sprockets and you might be able to keep up with some of the newer 600s in the straights, i have no problem keeping up with my gixxer buddies.
the r6, awesome for the twisties, has fuel injection along with all the newer technology since the yzf600r hasn't been updated since 97. but now days everyone has a r6 and it's much more likely to be stolen. but i have to admit, there are times that i do wish i had an r6 after riding the yzf600r for over a year now i feel like its about time to upgrade. don't get me wrong though, i still have a blast every time i saddle up.
cliff notes: yzf600r = one of the best real world sportbikes.
r6 = one of the best, if not the best 600, sportbikes for the track.

i have been talking with a local dealer, havent gotten any hard numbers yet, but what you said seems a bit odd to me.
The MSRP on R6 = $8499
The MSRP on YZF = $7099
I wont buy the R6 unless i can get it out the door for $8K tops. Financing lol.
If they cant make that happen, i may have to dig up some extra cash to put down so i can get in on that financing deal going on.
Being that i kinda grew up on bikes, im aprehensive to buy the yzf, i think im gonna really wish i had bought the R6 if i buy the yzf.

what i meant was...
the demand on the yzf600r isn't nearly as high as the r6, so dealers are much more willing to work out a nice deal on them. here in southern cali, i've talked to MANY r6 riders that have paid as much as 10k otd, some get away with 9k otd. i noticed you're in MN, so you'll probably be able to work out a much better deal but it's spring now so i dunno. i was under the impression that this will be your first bike, if that isn't the case, i'd go for the r6

Apples to oranges IMO. 600R is probably more comparable w/an F4i. Then.. I'd get an F4i over the 600R.
Good luck finding a new R6 for $8K out the door. It's not gonna happen. I paid $9K out the door for my '04 and that was a decent deal. They raised the price for '05.
And as for being able to keep up and all the other stuff you wanted in a bike... you can do all that w/any 600 sport bike. Unless all your friends ride supersports and they're all pro racers. I had a chick on a 250 keep up with me once

but the f4i ($8499) actually retails for a bit more than an r6, in which case i'd rather go for the r6. but who knows how much dealers are letting the new f4i go for since everyone seems to be snatching up the rr's. now if honda would only drop the price of the f4i by a grand... that'd be a sweet deal.
don't forget he's not from so cal, i've heard of people on the r6 forum getting their brand spanking new 05 raven r6 for under 8k otd SHIPPED. i think its from a dealership in TN.
was this at ortega? was the chick hot?

It was at Angeles Crest http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/AngelsCrest.htm. Couldn't tell if she was hot. Only found out she was even a chick when she passed me on the inside of a blind left hander
and I saw her blonde hair waving 'bye-bye' to me. I think it was a two stroke. Had a mean *** silencer on it.
