I use a number 1 bit with my impact screwdriver to get them out. Number 2 fits but is a little to big.

So with that said i want to say its a number 1.

The real emphasis here is on impact driver. Removing those screws without one will be extremely difficult (if not impossible) in most cases, so having the impact driver is more critical than the perfectly-sized bit. To make life easier for you in the future, leave the screws out when you reinstall the rotors.

i used a phillips screwdriver with vice grip pliers attached to the handle of the screwdriver to give me some leverage and it came right out.
i couldn't get it loose with just the screwdriver itself

Currently $25 on the Craftsman website, and Home Depot has a Husky set for $20.

Anyone know if you can get just the bits for it? I can't seem to find my #1, and I have to do a set of brakes this week.

impact driver makes it so very much easier. Maybe the local autoparts store has then for rent, but why not buy one? Its a very good tool to have

I broke my number screw bit undoing the rotor screws. I had to get the ezouts to get em off. Dont reinstall the rotor screws when u put the rotors back, makes life so simple.

take your screw driver and place it to the rotor screw. then take a hammer and hit the end of the screw driver and hit it a few times fairly hard. then it should come out pretty easy. i have done this multiple time

Finally got the screws out. The previous owners boogered the head of the screw up but there was enough for the impact to bite

Another one that helps is knocking the rotors lightly with a hammer in the area of the screws so shake 'em down a bit.

If the head of the screws are stripped, you can drill them out or extract them. There are people that run without the rotor retaining screws. You're fine running like that as long as your lug nuts are torqued down properly.

Drilling is pretty easy. The hub is threaded, but the rotor is not. So you just need to drill off the head of the screw. I thought that it would be a pain in the ***, but it was actually really easy.

Yeah, you do not need the rotor screws. They are just there to hold the rotors on the car while it's on the assembly line until the wheels are put on.

umm theyre there to withstand torque thus removing the pressure off the wheel studs
