Positive Budget Paint Shop Experiences?
So i want to paint my 6th gen accord because i have lots of marks here and there and the paint is just fading in general. But its my daily driver and my living situation doesnt include a garage so i park it outside almost every day, and i dont want to spend 3k+ on a "pro" paintjob. Call me cheap or whatever i dont care, i just prefer to be practical, and since i dont have a garage, a 5000 dollar paintjob would go to crap in a year anyway.
Ive heard some good things about some 1 day paints...anyone recommend a shop or can paint the car themselves for say....800 or under? If the price is ok i might be looking to do a color change. Im in socal. Any opinions appreciated.

macco did my sister accord. Had to wait a year before i could wax it, because the paint would just come right off w/ the buffer. .:-x . you get what you pay for .. Paint became dull very fast.
From my experiences, Maaco looks good for the first couple of months but then you have to watch for shipping and spider webbing.
A shop around here charges more, but puts a 10yr warranty on the paint.

not really. more like you guys have low standards. if you look at it on the side its very blurry ( in person) the paint jobs only appear to be shiny because they put a lot of metallic in the paint to reflect a " metallic shine" that kinda mimics shinyness.
its a single stage paint. there IS NO clear coat. and you cannot wetsand and buff it.
if your paint is decent . dont bother going to miracle or earl schieb or macco.s i'd only go there if your paint is seriiously fucked up and an oldercar that you dont plan on reselling. or resell for much cuz after a year or two the paint will look like crap.
btw a 5K paint job should last up very well to the elements. lets just say in 1 year. your macco paint job will probably look worse than your paint job right now. and youll pay more to repaint it.
in the pictures it looks good. try to find people with macco paint jobs in your area. and see how you like them.

I'm also planning on doing a paintjob in the next month or so, and it seems really diff to find something a notch better than the maaco stuff, but not quite the baller $5k paintjobs. Seems like the best value is still the $2k mobworks painjob (which is not perfect, but pretty good considering the price). Still, i'm no expert on the shops and painjobs in general. any other recs? may end up going back to mobworks.
i second mobworks...not bad for the price
btw the macco job talked about before is nowhere near as durable as a 5k job, but not all of us college students can drop 5k into paint. as for the paint not being gloss or what not..heres a couple more pics of the macco job

It's really hard to tell in that picture, but I think Dakine9 got to know someone at his local Maaco and worked something out. Maaco is franchised, they are just like any other body shop there are good and bad ones, but yeah you can't expect too much out of a single stage enamel that you only pay $300 for.
You however don't have to spend $5,000 on a paint job either for it to be good.
Maaco does offer 2 Stage urethane paint jobs at affordable prices. I've actually seen one on a black GTO and it was beautiful. Again make sure you look at the work your Maaco has done in the past as thee are good and bad maaco's just like good and bad bodyshops.
If you are looking at something durable but dirt cheap you can get a single stage urethane from Maaco. Seen a few of them on friends vehicles, and urethane paint is more durable and not as prone to cracking and chipping easily like Enamel.

Exactly I remembered something about that.

do everytrhing yourself, youlll be proud in the end and have experience, im doing everything on my own frmo the wetsanding to the spraying. and its tons of fun too!
well its true, you get what you pay for.. i too am a college student, and I got a coupon in the mail today for a maaco job for $275 thats for the presidential package. Im gonna go for it because, even if the car looks good for the first year, ill still have time to save up for a better paint job in the future. Im just tired of my multi-colored front end (99-00 conversion), and mulitple keyings that my car has been building up.
And I talked to owner of the Maaco Im going to, and he told me upfront that Maaco isnt the best in the world, but he assured that the work he does in his shop, he puts 100% effort into, and hes shown me examples of his best works to his average works, and they look pretty good.
