Default ls/vtec noises...

just dropped in the engine yesterday. all the clearances are in spec. all new gaskets and pumps.

idle the car foe about 5min. NO problems
reved the car to about 4500rpms and it started making this clunking metal to metal noise.. like a detonation but it was coming from the head...
after searching and searching, and starting and turnoing off the car the noise CHANGED to a squealing noise... a high pitch squeal...

the noise is coming from the engine not the trans...
the noise is always there...
the noise started after the engine was reved up...
there are no leaks and no smoke...

any type of help is appreciated.

distributor? otherwise time to take it apart. the more u listen and try to figure it out the more it could damage the engine.

Valve adjustment is usually a ticking. Unless contact has already occured. Screaching from the engine? Preceeded by clunking? Sounds like spun bearing. Sure its not coming from the tensioner?

wow... man the noise turned out to be the alternator belt hitting the timing belt cover.

the first clunking was fron the alternator bolt coming lose and then the screeching was the belt that left a huge mark on the timing belt cover...

man i'm glad that's all

thanks for the help!
