Default D16y8 swap with an 88 Si Transmission

I keep reading that 89 and up there really is no problem, what about us 88 guys? I just blew my A6 and am looking at a Y8 replacement. I would love to reuse my new clutch and trans.

Any problems here?

TIA

You need to use the 88 flywheel, clutch, and transmission. A little rule of thumb is to match the clutch and flywheel to the transmission.

88 are the balck sheep of the bunch....the 88 tranny and a 21 spline shaft compared to the 90-91 wich is a 20 spline...as for the 89 i'm not to sure it been 20 or 21...

i think u can transfer the flywheel, clutch and plate over to ur new y8 block...

i have a z6 blocj mated to a jdm zc tranny with a z6 flywheel clutch..

The '89 Si transmission did have 20 splines, just like the '90-'91 Si's. However, the '89 had a smaller clutch and flywheel than the '90-'91s.

Yup it is like the 88 is the black sheep while the 89 is the gray sheep.
