Need firm/correct answers from NASA!
Yes/No answers with explainations when needed will do.
1) Do I need to submit a current medical to reg. before the VIR 16/17 event?
2) Do I need to submit a provisional lic. form before the VIR 16/17 event, even if I currently have a provisional lic. issued in Nov '01?
3) Do I need to obtain a logbook before the VIR 16/17 event? Or will NASA issuse them then? If so, how much $$ will it cost me?
4) Can I get annual tech. inspection for my race car at the VIR 16/17 event? If so, how much $$ will it cost me?
5) After I pay this "$50 Annual License Fee", will other hidden fees arise? If so, how much $$ will it cost me?
6) Since most of the ECHC racers will be on provisional lic. at the first race (CMP in April) will we be put in the back of the pack because we don't have our Full, NASA national issued lic. yet?
Yack

Advice? Be very cautious about banking on answers that you get here. If you really want the last word from any sanctioning body, find out who is the source of official information (it might be more than one person, which is a pain) and e-mail him/her directly. Print a copy of the reply and put it in the binder that you are going to buy today for all of your racing paperwork, track notes and so forth. It would be a huge bummer to get to the track only to find out that whoever answered your question on this forum was mistaken.

- NASACHRIS is the NASA-VA director
- Grumpy is the NASA-VA Race Director (who should and will more than likely field these questions)
- Lees Z is the NASA-VA Registrar
Any or all of these people are on the same page and can answer the questions successfully.
Jack - just out of curious why would you need all that for the Feb. event? It is just a school (or are you running the enduro?).

Good question Drew.........
but ever since I sent the reg in to Elyse, all of the above demands have been brought up in emails between her and I. I would like a final and correct answer since the NASA officals and I can not seem to get on the phone to talk this over.
Just making sure I won't be turned away come Feb.

I was presented with the same questions/requests. I asked if it was required for the Feb. event even if I am not planning to get evaluated. Her response was that I did not need all that stuff. Perhaps she is assuming you will be evaluated since this is the last chance before the start of the ECHC season.

"even if I currently have a provisional lic. issued in Nov '01"
Hopefully I have set all assumptions aside with the above post.

After a call from NASA HQ in California, we (NASA-VA) have been advised that we have been lax in some of our competition licensing practices. We need to comply with the current CCR.
Guess who, yeah me, has been designated as Chief of Competition Licensing for NASA-VA..
So, having said that...
1. A fully completed NASA medical form MUST be on file for ALL NASA licensed competition drivers.
The new (for us) procedure will be that a medical form must be submitted before a provisional license will be issued. NASA-VA will then forward the medical form to NASA national where it will be kept on file. If you then apply for a national license, your medical form will be already on file.
To get caught up, NASA-VA will be REQUIRING that a medical form be turned in to us BEFORE April 1, 2002. If your medical form is not on file by that time, your license will be suspended until receipt of the medical form.
The NASA medical form is downloadable from the NASA national site www.nasaproracing.com .

In order to get a provisional license, the provisional application http://www.nasaproracing.com/images/...al_license.pdf must be submitted in advance before a provisional license will be issued.
Any current provisional license holder who has not yet submitted this form must do so before April 1, 2002 or your provisional license will be suspended until that form is received.

Competitiopn Vehicle logbooks will be issued upon inspection of the vehicle by a NASA approved inspector. This can be done at the race track, There is currently NO FEE for this. A FEE covering the cost of the logbook is currently being considered (This is no different than most other sanctions. SCCA charges $5 per logbook).
You must have a NASA logbook for your competituion car. Annual saftey inspections by other sanctions will be accepted in lieu of a complete annual NASA inspection. You will still need a NASA logbook.
This will be strictly enforced starting April 1, 2002.

NASA-VA will be providing AT NO CHARGE competition vehicle inspections for both new cars and those needing annual inspections. This will be available at all NASA-VA events.
Please present your car early enough so you won't be inconvenienced by long lines.

I like this question the best. Hidden costs? Racing is nothing but hidden costs.
But the fee structure regarding Comp licensing is this:
There is a fee collected by NASA-VA to cover the costs of evaluating you at the track. This fee is in addition to the normal fees for track time in HPDE. You will be evaluated during an Advanced session and will be given additional RACING instruction as part of the evaluation.
The fee is currently $50.00.
NASA National requires a $50.00 fee to process your comp license application. This fee goes to NASA HQ and NASA-VA has nothing to do with it. It MUST be submitted in advance of getting your provisional license for all new applicants. This is effective immediately by directive of NASA HQ.
We are currently trying to figure out what to do about those who already have their provisional licenses.

Positioning of provisional license holders on the grid behind the others is decided at each event and is at the discression of the Race Director on an individual or group basis.

To clarify, to whom must the license application be submitted to? NASA-VA? NASA HQ? Thanks.

If you have ANY questions, please give either Grumpy or me a call 703-250-4906 or email.
1. I knew all of this already.
2. But I just learned it 2 days ago.
3. It's all Grumpy's fault.
If you have a provisional from last year, the best plan is to bring it with you along with the provisional application to VIR and hand it DIRECTLY TO GRUMPY. He will handle it from there.
I will be getting my annual tech and fresh NASA logbook at VIR. I suggest you all do the same so all the hassle is out of the way before CMP.
Scott, who remembers when Cobetto handed him his provisional thinking "OK, that was wayyy too easy... no paperwork???"

You must be new here Knestis . . .
A suggestion, if that is going to be the case - how about real names and titles for those folks? My concern still stands that, if a visitor gets information from three different Usernames how does he know which one is the NASA official, which is the ECHC entrant (with good information maybe, but no official standing), and which is the high school kid from Tiburon, CA?
Just a thought, having been boinked by bad info in the past...
Kirk
BTW - Keep up the good work, ECHC people. I will certainly catch at least one of your races this year.

Not TOO new! I understood that a bunch of the NASA/ECHC big-wigs (e.g. "Grumpy") hung out here but I didn't know that they used this forum to provide information in their official capacities.
