4000rpm @ 80mph ... how stressful is it to an engine on gen4 lude?
I am not used to reving my engine to over 4krpm for an extended period of time. I am wondering how stressful it is to an engine if engine is kept at over 4k rpm for an extended period of time, let's say around 3-4 hours.
I am kind of worried because the engine has over 155k miles. But, it is still running very strong.

It depends on load. If you're cruising in 5th gear, and you try to pass someone in 5th gear uphill, and FLOOR it your engine will not last as long as someone who downshifts to 4th gear and passes someone under light throttle.

why is that b/c in 5th gear you'd be at a lower rpm

When I'm on the interstate usually around 90mph i'm at 5000 for prolonged periods of time, nothing bad happens.
Just get used to a high revving engine, it took me a while

Stress on engine's aren't all due to high rpm's. Think about it this way...
When you are riding a bicycle, and you are going uphill on the highest gear your bike has, your not peddling very fast (low RPM's) but how does it feel on your legs?

i shift at about the same. i used to shift at like 2800...and i got a lot worse gas mileage. i've been driving faster and my gas mileage has gone up by like 20+ per tank. i always restart the trip meter crap everytime i pump my gas and i always pump it all the way. i take the miles i drove and divide it by the gallons i pump and i get my gas mileage. i get about 22.8 per gallon. its great for being turboed

I guess it's because I have a F22 motor 5 speed but at 80mph i'm only revving around 2,300 rpm. I'd have to be in 3rd gear to be over 4000@ 80. Is H22 and F22 trannies geared that different?
I got mated with an f22 tranny on my h22
It's okay though because I'll always know that the best mod I can do is like $300-500 away
But for now i like getting like 28 miles to the gallon with enthused driving and meeting vtec 20 times a day.. My only question is, is that my 4th gear is good for me between like 30-70 mph.. at 70 mph i'd be revving a little under 4,000 rpm in 4th.. so does that work? Aside from it being annoying as hell even with my trust exhaust.. i just worry about having the car revving so high.. like 3,000-4,000 for my 30 minute drives across town or something at a constant 55 speed limit. in fourth gear. Fifth is worthless unless i'm on the interstate or am just trying to be really quiet and go on a flat or downhill section. I get worse mpg when i try using 5th regularly and end up just gassing it too much when it cant go anywhere because of those stupid gears
