Who is instructing at VIR?
Both events - just wanted to see who I might land as an instructor.
disregard any horror stories from anyone named Knighton or Jacobs.

NASA has over 25 instructors signed up for the HPDE and 10 and counting for the Competition school. Most are not on this board.
If you are looking for a particular person to team up with let us know and we will try to accomodate.
We still have spots open in all HPDE categories but expect to fill. We have room for only 6 more in the Competition School.

Grumpster,
Is NASA maintaining it's policy of not having racers instruct for the driver's school? Who is instructing the racing school?

Non-racers will instruct the HPDE as usual.
A new core of RACING instructors has been brought in to instruct in the RACING school.
Each school will be totally independent of each other all weekend.

Grumpy - just curious, how come non-racers instruct the HPDE's, while racers do not? What about those of us who want to work toward getting a racing license this year?

On the weekends that I'm racing, I wouldn't want to instruct, and I'm glad the policy is in place. Racers IMO have too much to do and too much ontheir minds to instruct correctly.
With two students, it's hard enough just getting out onto the track myself if I'm going to do a proper job of instructing (debriefing after sessions, being available for questions off track, etc). I barely have time to torque my wheels and take a quick tire pressure check. Having to be meticulous about that stuff prior to a race? No way.

oh oh oh... i get it.
silly me. must go get more coffee now.
i read the statment as "racers do not instruct" as those people who do race competitively dont instruct....
instead of reading it as "people who are racing that weekend arent instructing at the same time"
Maybe one day i will learn how to read while i'm in college. Unless i have to pay extra for that. Or maybe i wont have so much

HPDE teaches you how to drive.
The comp school and the driver evaluation for provisional license teaches you how to race. The Comp school is the best racer school I have seen. The evaluation teaches some racer skills, but not at the level of the Comp school.
If you try to race before you can drive it'll cost ya.
Our emphasis in HPDE is NOT how fast was my lap time, but rather what driving skill did I learn/practice this weekend.

Hee hee. What if you race horses? I will not argue that costs a lot. What if you wanted to race shopping carts or something like that....

Cobetto instructed me at Summit Point shortly after blowing up his Factory Five Cobra. It was one of the best instructions I have ever gotten. Corey was also great though, even though I heard I was his first student.
