Default Is the ZC still the best non-vtec choice?

I've fallen in love with my $800 winter beater, so I'm thinking about redoing it.

I already have a boosted DC2 so I was thinking of doing a non-vtec all motor setup. My question is...

Is the ZC still easy to find? Is that the best choice for a n/a big horsepower application?

I'd like to just build the **** out of it and run a nice wet n2o kit.

Any thoughts?

I'd say the ZC is the cheapest but the B18 is deffinately easier to build. It's a lot easier to find parts for the B18 than the ZC I should know because I have one. If you do decide to go ZC than checkout http://www.thezcr.com for any questions.

ZC DOHC is seriously quick with the matching gearbox. I had a ZC SOHC in my Integra (stock from Japan) and even it was pretty quick. Not very high top speed though, but the low gearing made up for it. She could still hit that goddammed JDM limiter all the same!

From the looks of it, you have an Si. You already have the best Dseries to build for NA. Just build the stock a6.

I made 186whp out of mine and drove it daily.

It's a DX with an aftermarket roof. (but I did a swap, so the only thing left is the gauge cluster and the rear brakes) I've thought about building the D, but something about it I just don't like, I had a D in my eg and never liked that one neither. I never thought about the B18. That's just basically the integra LS motor right?

Really? I've always considered 'all-motor' as "not forced induction" So I figured that since nitrous just increases air density it would be more like just an additive to an 'all-motor' setup.

bottom line......if you got the cash, go for the b18 ls motor....if your tight on cash...do the zc.

I have a zc and it is great. ZC's are great for turbo, but not for all motor (unless you have the desire and cash).

I would go with the b18 engine from an ls integra. They don't run much either, you should talk to me, because my buddy was just getting rid of an ls block for $50 bucks, and my other buddy was selling a pretty much complet ls swap for $600

Nitrous is forced induction.

if you go LS you have a shitload of aftermarket parts to choose from, lots of torque to start with. would make a much faster car in the long run.

the zc is a nice motor if you get the tranny with it, but if you can afford the mounts and wiring, go LS with a b16a tranny. youll be cooking before you even build it or add your n2o.

yeh, all motor implies no nitrous.
just like it sounds, all motor is just normally aspirated, ie the motor does it all with no power-adder.

good call.

Donny has a 99 civic D series for sale for 300. so when I get the GSR back I'm going to blow up my current motor, you want in collins?

I have a full tank of nitrous. I think we should blow it at the grove.

These days, it might actually be more expensive to buy a ZC than a B18A! I'm not kidding! At least here in Sacramento, CA, there are plenty of LS motors to be found at the local Pick-And-Pulls. And a complete motor goes for $120! Try finding a ZC for THAT little. I bet you can't. Also, transmissions go for $75 and ECUs for $30. There are, of course, two small catches. First of all, transmissions, ECUs, and distributers tend to go fast. So if you want to get everything, you have to find a car that is pretty fresh (but the motors themselves tend to be easy finds). Also, most of the cars are automatic. And, of course, you need the mount kit. But if you can get all the stuff, you can have an LS swap virtually for a song.
