Put it in a vice between two peices of wood, or some form of material that is softer than the tensioner and wrap a good size zip tie around it before compressing. Once it's compressed then tighten the tie...

you're in luck, I just did my timing belt a few days ago. anyways, you need to take off the maintenece bolt(8mm bolt) off the bottom of the auto-tensioner. look inside and you'll see that you need a flat head screw driver to turn the bolt inside. once you turn it, it'll compress. and as what MackDad said, use a zip tie to hold it down until you bolt it back onto the block or go buy the stopper from honda.

you can compress it by undoing the screw on the bottom and turning the screw inside, it should compress

i would not reuse that tensioner, i have seen alot of autotensioners fail because they reused

i might suggest doing the h23 manual tensioner conversion

One of mine broke when turning the screw inside the tensioner, all the hydraulic fluid leaked out. I bought another one, and when I was doing my timing belt again, I had to re-compress it. This time nothing leaked out, and it looked like it was working. It gave out about a week later. I highly recomment the manual tensioner conversion.

It's no big deal, my motor survived. I just recommend the manual tensioner because the auto tensioner is known to fail, and when your timing belt goes, its a 50 - 50 shot your motor will be fucked.

nope, i got lucky. it came off at about 2500 rpm's. I'm just glad it didn't come off at 7k. IMO the auto tensioner is a piece of ****. Do the conversion, you'll be happy you did.
