Its a nice bike, trying to compete for the first bike market with the sv650s. Im not really into half naked bikes but its pretty comfortable to ride. Decent power but I like how the sv650s handles better than the fz6.

I've sat on one at the dealership. Seemed like it could be pretty comfortable. It does weigh a lot, well for a bike that size, yamaha says 423 lbs dry. From what I've heard the battery is located under the fuel tank and that makes the bike feel a little more "top" heavy. I do think it's a good looking bike and I really like the styling of it, Also the price is great too, yamaha lists it at $6,599 which imo is sweet compared to what the other bikes cost. I'm looking at bikes and that is one of my choices. I don't need something extremely fast, I just like to go for long rides on weekends and want a bike that has good power and also comfortable. I'm also looking at the kawasaki zzr600 and this years model looks sweet. The dealer that I like going too sells honda, kawasaki, suzuki and yamaha. I love going in there and look at one and then compare it to another. Also since they sell all those brands they'll tell you what the differences are between the different bikes.

I looked at that bike. Good handling and comfortable, I could ride that for a long time and not get fatigued. Great for sport-touring.

Bike looks good, but IMO a 500cc bike is better suited for a beginner.

im really leaning towards a GSXR600 or an R6, and was just kind of curious as to what some of you thought of these bikes.

Basic reason for me staying at a 600 is that a local insurance company will insure me for $26 a month on a 600cc bike, no matter what bike it is. Jumping to a 750cc boosts insurance to $92, and a litre brings me around $150.

By the way, its state farm , whom i have my cars through. I thought they made a mistake when i was first getting insurance quotes on a bike, progressive quoted me just over $100 a month on a 600, and well as two other local insurance companys in that same price range. i called state farm back and told the lady she must have made a mistake, and she immediatly laughed and explained to me that state farms motorcycle policys are really really low, and people call back almost ever time to tell them they may have made a mistake.

Im not experienced on sport bikes. I got a kawasaki 80cc dirt bike when i was 7 years old. That stuck around till i was about 12, when my dad just got done mildly restoring a 1971 Bulltaco Alpine. i think it was a 250cc. Anyway, rode that on and off for a couple years in the ditches and what not for fun. Moved up to a yamaha 360cc when i was about 14 - 15 years old, rode that for a few years. When i was 17 my dad convinced me to drive his '83 wide glide to town(approx 8 miles of highway) to get him subway and bring back. That '83 wide glide had a (if i remember correctly) 1340cc motor in it, which at the time i believe was the biggest harley made??? not sure on that. That was pretty scary but fun, i didnt have a motorcycle endorsement, so i coulda got in some trouble. my dad felt confident i could handle the bike, and he was right, i did just fine.

hah, dont know why i just told my life story (on two wheels) but anyway, thanks for the feedback.

I've heard a lot about state farm insurance, especially for motorcycles. I have progressive for my vehicles so I'll get the to do some quotes when I get ready to buy but I will also check out state farm. Also I hard about progressive is that a 600cc bike is a 600cc bike no matter if it's say an r6, or the yzf600rm zx-6r, etc... so imo that can either help you but also hurt you at the same time. I heard about state farm from my salesman who I know pretty good.

How are their rates on cars? Maybe I'll just switch everything over...

Fz's are great bikes.

i just called kelly my state farm rep, heres what she quoted me.

and your right about the 600cc thing. She told me that no matter what kind of bike it is, all they look at is the size of the motor. Crotch rocket or cruiser, same price.

anyway

Full Coverage i think it was like 50/100/50 or something like that... but full coverage plus $1000 bodily injury to myself. So if i break my arm or something like that.

$218 annually. They only do annual rates on bikes, this state farm does anyway. im in the highest insurance bracket that you can be in. not really sure why. Not highest price, but highest status. maybe because we have 3 cars with state farm, no accidents, no tickets, im 24, wife is 25, both have life insurance through them also. She said being in that bracket makes (recreational vehicles) motor cycles much cheaper than normal.

So bottom line

Monthly Full Coverage Rate for 600cc Motorcycle = $18.17.

That ****** made my day!!!!

My wifes car 03 Chevrolet malibu LS Full coverage was like $35 less a month then the next cheapest, which was progressive.

I only pay like $22 a month for liability only on my beater truck.

damn i wish i could land that insurance, I pay like $300 a month for my little civic.

so bikes are cheaper though right, because im looking into purchasing a hayabusa, and im trying to figure out how much insurance would be on the 1300cc.

yay...that would probably very high. i hope to god your over 25 with experience to insure that bike.

A kid that lives near me bought a busa on his 18th birthday. He trailered it home, rode it a few hours in his neighbor hood, next day took it to the insurance company. They told him it would be $1100 a month, because of his age, he never took the course, and had prior vehicle accidents and speeding tickets. Obviously couldnt afford that, obviously an idiot for not getting a quote before buying.

Ended up never getting it insured and selling it. Lost like $2k becuase of it. Dealer wouldnt take it back because it had been riden.

lol@him.

my insurance renews in the fall so I'm def. gonna check with state farm. I always thought progressive wasn't the best deal I could get for my civic. When I got it paid off I put liabilty on it so I could afford it a lot better. I usually drive my truck a lot so the car sits but now with the way gas keeps going up I'm driving the car again. If I remember right when I had just the car with full coverage but with a $500 deductible if it was my fault and I was paying $185 a month. Now I think just the liability coverage for the car is $600 some dollars and I still think thats high. Also another thing that hurt me is I turned 25 a month after my policy renewed so of course they didn't give that to me. I'd rather have one insurance company to go through makes it a lot easier when paying bills. I will give for progressive though... they go back 3 years on your driving record, most of the other insurance companies go 5, but now my record should be squeaky clean knock on wood.

So did you call state farm? I dont know if its the same policy nation wide...i would assume theres variations from state to state, but i would think the numbers should be pretty close to the same.

Kinda same thing happened for me. When i heard it was gonna cost me $900+ a year to insure a bike, kinda took that outta the story, then i talked with state farm and the dream became a reality..lol

I finally talked it all out with my wife, going to the yamaha dealership tomorrow. Gonna apply for the financing, and if everything goes well from there, i will be riding again in a week or two. They dont stock the bikes, so they have to fetch one for me, so i have to wait a bit. But itll be worth it.
