Si vs RSX type S
Is the engine in the Type S a modified version of the Civic Si's? Is it possible to modify a Si's engine to perform like a Type S?
I'm looking into purchasing a new '05 Civic Si, but want more power. I'm hoping I can get one cheap and breath some life into it and not have to wait for the new Si to come out.

if you really want more power, just get the RSX-S and save yourself some time and work. Sis are great but the power difference (stock) between the two cars are night and day. But if you can find a new 05 si for like $15000-17000, just get it and boost it.
Not surprising its your 1st post. But yes a simple search would solve this easily. But just in case....
The Si is the same engine as the base rsx. They share the k20A3. The Si however shares the same intake manifold as the type s, where the base does not. This gives the Si the advantage with simple bolt ons. It benefits from them a lil more. The base rsx has more torque though. The gears in the Si are also shorter then base rsx.
To answer your question, to make your Si as good of an all around performer as a type s (and some people will argue this) you would need to do a number of things.
1. cold air intake
2. race header
3. a good exhaust
4. mm
5. TIRES!
6. better suspension
7. Hondata Reflash
Your sprint to 60 might take the type s. But once you hit 3rd, he'll pull on you no matter what. All of this would cost you about $2500 bucks. Unless you get a real good deal on the si, just get the type s. No sense in spending that much money to be driving with regret.
