car about to get totaled! Need advice!
Ok so some stupid bitch rear ended me the other day,
she had insurance so I wasn't really trippin..
but now I just saw the adjuster today,
and his assessment was $3400!
now seeing that I have a 92 cx with 160k on it..
he says it's definetely a total loss..
I really don't want a freakin salvage title on my car
is there anything I can do?
He did say that maybe if I could find some replacement parts for real cheap, and give them the quote, it could bring down the estimate..
I'm wondering if theres a way I can bring up the value of the car though,
I mean my car isn't stock, has a good few thousand dollars of goodies into it..
imo that shouldn't be ignored..
anyways, i just wanted to hear some feedback from u guys,
cuz i'm sure there are other ppl that have had this dilema.

If you don't want it totaled, do what he said.. that will def involve buying non oem parts though..
Why not just take the salvage title (and repairs), remove your parts, sell the car, and buy a new shell for your parts? Or you could just tell them to cut you a check, sell the car as is without your mods, and buy a shell...
If you don't get the assessment lowered, you will def have a salvage title..
Its not a big deal here in KY though.. you can still fully insure it and everything here.. so unless the damage was irreparable, it doesn't matter to people around here..

would you give someone 3 grand to avoid a point on your record?
would you give someone 3 grand to avoid a point on your record?
are you really going to ask 3 grand?
new rear bumper: 150
paint job/alignment: 6-800
hatch/cf hatch: 350
i mean, are you out to get your car fixed or are you out to make money?

Hell no. I doubt she'll go for that.

i agree
i agree
her car was fuct up too,
she put in the claim already, I know that for a fact. so thats out of the question.
and 1600 wouldn't get my car fixed
And I want my car fixed, fixed well.
I'm already on my 2nd hatch, last one crashed in a hydroplane incident,
finding/buying a good clean hatch, then transferring all the parts over is a
******* BITCH, and I do not want to do it again.
what needs to befixed,
rear tailgate
tail light
bumper
some framework
both rear 1/4panels repainted
yeah 3400 suprized me as well,
but we aren't claims adjusters.. and he actually saw the car, not just one pic on the net..

**** that is nothing man. Looks like you can still drive the car.
Demand that you want the car repaired (you will have to fight for this) to it's previous state before the accident, and that their customer has damaged your property. Get some estimates too btw, there is no where near $3000 worth damage. If you have some time... tell the adjuster that you'd be more than happy to take their client to small claims court, which will be favorable in your situation (personal property damage, with a police report, and pictures is a no brainer. Have estimates ready too), and their client will not be happy as the insurance is supposed to be "taking care of this" and now they have to go out of their way to get this resolved.
Get receipts. Gather them all up. If you really do have a couple g's into the car. For what you don't have receipts, get a local shop to give you an estimate. Fax them to the adjuster. Ask him to reevaulate your cars fair market value. If he says fair market value is "$2000" tell him that is fair market value for a stock car. Go to Autotrader and get prices for a car with similar mods and then tell the insurance company THAT is fair market value.

well what I was looking to find out,
is there a way I can dispute the value of the car do to the upgrades done to it and such?
I'm going to try and get the estimate lowered as well..
I just need to show them really cheap quotes on the various parts.
adjuster said it would be better to show them quotes , not actually purchase the parts..
so thats good for me, if I can get it down some and clean title,

i would suggest trying to keep the title clean by getting the parts quotes yourself.
I have had this happen to me too. I retained my vehicle after they told me it was a total loss. I bought it back for like $400. They said my car at the time was worth $4200. I decided not to take the $4200 and keep the car with a Salvage title while they in turn gave me $3800($4200-400). I used the money to fix the car and had money left over. only thing was that i had a salvage title vehicle. You cant fully cover a salvage vehicle.
insurance companies dont want to take the chance of hidden damage that the body shops might charge them. That is why it is easier for them just to call it a total loss. The damage you have is very minimal. I would ask the lady if she would be willing to give you money and not go thru insurance, if at all possible. I dont know what insurance companies feel about this though.
another thing is that you take all your parts off(dont let the insurance know) and let them give you money for it. buy a new hatch!
by the way....is the hatch glass damaged? I want the hatch glass ****!
keep us posted on what happens.

^^i'm with him (ef_you_again). dude, take the $3600, pocket it, then take off all your parts, throw the car back to stock, slap on a rear bumper cover, and sell that sucka. make $$ on her stupidity
(and you keep all your parts!)
(and you keep all your parts!)

So if I got the price down low enough that they wouldn't total it,
and had it fixed.. but the bodyshops found hidden damage once they got to work(needing more $$),
they wouldn't total it at that point?
