Installing JDM sidemarkers (searched)
I just got some JDM Prelude Side markers for my USDM 5th Gen.
Are there any online How To's or DIY? I cant find any on H-T or Yahoo.
I know I can just measure and cut, but I want to be 100% sure I do everything right.
Thanks

as far as i know its all measure and cut. sucks cause thats the boat im in right now too. im thinking it may be worth it to pay the money to have it done to ensure i dont burn the paint.
this would be the first thing i have paid to have done to the car.

On an old car I lubed the drill bit as I drilled and then when I was all done I washed and waxed the area, and then I used a rust inhibitor and a qtip to get it evenly applied on either side of the fender, a couple years later I removed them to put new bulbs in, no rust, still looked great.
Make sure its a metal drill bit, not one for wood.

haha, yah, it's a bit unnerving when you're cutting into the quarter panel! And the shitty thing is that the sidemarkers are not like those shitty ones you buy at ricer stores which basically only need a small hole to drill for the wires...the hole that you need to cut is freaking huge!! I had to do this on my car and what I did was first of all:
1. find out exactly where you want to mount it. Measuring tape is key here! haha. Also, use one of those leveling tools to make sure it's not crooked.
2. Then, I used some pretty heavy duty masking tape and layered it around the place I was going to cut. I don't have a ton of tools, but I did have a drill and a jig saw.
3. I then made a template out of cardboard. I cut a hole where the side marker would fit in nice and neat and then I placed it on the tape and traced it out. If you're unsure, smaller is better...you can always trim or shave some off later!
4. After that, I drilled a hole big enough for the jigsaw bit to fit in. I also placed some holes along the line (carefully not going past the line) as well as in each of the remaining 3 corners, kinda like checkpoints i guess! haha
5. After that, I used my jigsaw with a bimetal blade. The teeth were very close together. I started in the hole that was big enough to get it in and then just made my way across the tape and followed the line. Pretty easy, but wear goggles and be prepared for some loud noise!
6. Once the hole was cut, I just tried to fit the sidemarker in and it went in no problem. If it's too small, better than too big, then use a dremel if you have one to grind off some of the metal until it fits nice and tight.
7. Run the wires and into the hole and along side the fender and I simply tapped it into the side marker. I didn't want them on all the time so I just used the wire for the signal, not the parking/signal wire.
8. Before mounting, use some silicone, some clear paint or some color match paint along the edge to try and prevent rusting. I used silicone, just a light coat and I haven't had any rust problems (knock on wood) and I've done this about 4 years ago
Hope that helps someone! haha

Thanks for the help guys.
Last question: wiring.
My side markers came with like 2~3 inches of wire. 1 green 1 black. I figure that the stock turn markers use the same color wire, now here's my question. Can I just splice the side markers with some small gauge copper wire into the stock turn signals? If not, tell me what I need to do!
Thanks

Yah, I believe that it's the same color on the front signals. Green and black sounds totally familiar...then again, I installed these like 4 years ago! haha anyway, yah, all you have to do is splice into the existing wire and you should be good to go.
