The setup (briefly) - b18c1 - stock head except Type R springs/retainers, P&P job

Block - .030 over stock sleeves, nuformz blockguard, 9.1 cp pistons, eagle rods

t3/t4 .60 57 trim turbo, hondata 200 on a p28,
walboro 255 and rc 550s on a stock fpr


First question: I'm running 13.3 psi on a 15 psi basemap so it's running pretty rich. Sometimes in the cold, and cooler weather the car would die at idle, or mostly when I shift into neutral or downshift to stop. Since the weather has warmed up, the car dies a lot now (almost always when downshifting to stop or shifting into neutral to stop). Generally when you start it back up right after it dies, it idles fine which leads me to believe that it is loading up on fuel and that the retune will fix it. Does it sound like a problem with the tune, or like an IACV since it seems to be dependat upon the temp outside?

Last question: As before, I'm on a basemap tune @ 13.3 psi, with 2.5" exhaust, and stock cam gears. This week I'm adding my 3" exhaust (downpipe and dump under car), and skunk 2 cam gears. I'm going to the dyno in 2 weeks, at which time I will turn the boost up to 15 ish psi. So, do you guys think that the rc 550's on a stock fpr ( I think it's runnin about 55lbs of fuel pressure, not sure though) will be able to handle the 15 psi, or will they max out and limit my power? (hoping for close to 400whp, probably will be lucky to get to 375) I don't want to run them at an extremely high duty cycle, so I am consiering buying bigger injectors before I go, but if I dont need them i'll save the money. Opinions??

 

sounds like you need a better tune. the hondata will automatically adjust for boost. when i adjust my boost from 20psi down to 10psi, the car still runs the same. get it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing when you go to the dyno. the basemap is a estimate and is only good to get your car to start and function. i would not waste my money on 550 injectors, go up to a 750 which will be capable of making 400+ whp and get a fpr.

 

Yeah If I were buying injectors I wouldnt buy small ones, but I already have the 550's, so i was trying to save money by not buying more. However, I think I may have traded for a set of 780's so that question may be answered...

Is an adjustable FPR a must? I figured with 780's they could just take the duty cycle down and let it run whatever FPR it wants to run with the 255 pump and the stock regulator.

 

I got my injectors coming, does the idle sound like something in the tune?

 

tuning is key, people who tell you that you can't get 1000's to idle just haven't seen good tuning. I bought injectors that were way too big for my HP level but they idled perfectly and ran great because i had Cresent from c-speedracing.com tune my car

 

Yes tuning is definately the key, but I just don't know if my problem sounds more tuning related or mechanical. It seems to be related to tuning since the temp outside changes it, but who knows?

 

Sounds like tuning to me. It takes some finesse to get larger injectors to idle nice and smooth. I have my saturated RC 650ccs running 100% like stock w/ hondata
