Default Easy question for you guys about wire size

I have a pretty basic setup on my CRX. Just one mid-small sized amp. I'm running the wire from the battery to a distribution block. From there I have a 4ga (with inline fuse) going to the amp, a 4ga going to the starter, and an 8ga going to the fuse box.

My question is what size wire do I need to go from the battery to the distribution block?

Here's a quick layout of what I have:

Thanks guys!

edit: one more question: the ground wire from the battery be the same size as the power wire right?

yeah with your set up there's no reason to get any bigger than 4ga. You COULD do 2ga, for expansion purposes...but that could be expensive.

if it was me, I'd run a direct line from the battery to the starter - 4 ga. Then I'd run a second line from the battery to a fused distro block, then split - one run for the amp, the second run to the factory fuse block.

Fuse the individual runs appropriately.

If you don't want to do it that way, I guess you could take one straight run off the battery at 4 or 0/1 ga - both should be appropriate - to that distro block. You just don't want a lot of wire under there that is not fused.

Also, while you are at it, do yourself a favor and upgrade all of the factory grounds with 4 ga. Grind/sand all grouning points down to bare metal - the ground side of the circuit is just as important as the positive side!

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll be going with the 4ga from the battery to the distribution block.

rcurley: your first suggestion sounds good, but having 2 wires coming off the battery is exactly what I was trying to avoid by having the distribution block. And I agree with upgrading to the 4ga on the grounds as well.

Thanks again guys!
